Course Objective
  • To provide students with fundamental concepts
    and working techniques of calculus and linear
    algebra
  • To help students attain the techniques for
    proper formulation and analysis of problems that
    are important for success in upper-level
    computing subjects

Exams
  • All exams will be close-book, 1 page notes are
    allowed
  • The mid-term exam covers the first part of the
    course and counts 60 of your continuous grade.
  • The final exam will be comprehensive, but will
    emphasize topics in the second part. The final
    exam counts 45 of your total grade.

Assignments
  • There will be 2 assignments composed of problems
    from the text book and/or additional problems.
  • The assignments count 40 of your continuous
    grade.

Class format
  • Lecture notes will be provided through WebCT or
    class Web site.
  • Some supplemental materials may be given in the
    class. For example, different examples, tips and
    excises.

Your Part
  • Come to lecture and tutorial sessions regularly
    and be prepared.  Read the slides and/or
    textbook, making sure you understand them.
  • Pick up your graded homework and exams.  They
    contain important feedback.  Also, it is your
    responsibility to check your score for accuracy
  • Check the class web page at least weekly for
    assignments and announcement

Course policy-I
  • Make-up exams
  • Please note the dates of the exam in the
    schedule carefully, as makeups will be given only
    under extreme circumstances. 
  • Examples include illness (provide
    documentation.) or family emergency (provide
    documentation.)  If you have questions about
    whether you qualify, ask.
  • Late homework 
  • Late assignments can be accepted with a penalty
    50 of the amount per day.

  • Re-grading 
  • Any re-grading of written homework assignments
    or exams must be done within ONE week after the
    item in question is returned.
  • Please first discuss with TA for re-grade
    issues.
  • TA will in charge of grading your assignments
    and may grade your exams.
