2
Character Really Does Count!
  • Students are awarded for portraying each of the
    six pillars of Character Responsibility,
    Respect, Fairness, Trustworthiness, Caring, and
    Citizenship.

3
Character Counts Store
  • The Character Counts store was developed by our
teachers that rewards students for behaving
properly. For most good deeds or actions,
teachers or staff members may give the student
tickets to spend on prizes at the CC store. The
prizes range from 1 ticket for a bag of chips, or
30 tickets for a 15 Itunes card and items in
between such as jump drives, water bottles, MP3
players, and Gift Cards. Big prizes for a drawing
at the end of each semester may include such
    items as a TV, a 30 Gigabyte Ipod, or a 250 Visa
    Gift Card.

4
What is a Character Counts Ticket?
  • Each ticket that a student receives gives that
student an opportunity to purchase prizes that
the school provide. A ticket is a small piece of
paper that has a students name and what pillar
was portrayed when given the ticket. The store is
open once every 9 weeks so that students can
either spend or save to buy bigger prizes and
have a better chance to win the drawing.

5
Responsibility
  • When a student takes responsibility for their
own actions or even other students, faculty may
give the students tickets for the store. Actions
may include doing what is expected, persevering,
doing the best that they can, or making and
    keeping up good grades.

6
Respect
  • When students are seen acting respectfully to
other students, teachers, or the school grounds,
behaving well for a substitute teacher, being
tolerant of differences, using good manners,
proper language, and dealing peacefully with
anger may earn students Character Counts tickets.

7
Fairness
  • Students who are open-minded, do not take
advantage of others, and do not blame others
carelessly get rewarded with Character Counts
    tickets.

8
Trustworthiness
  • When teachers feel that students are being
totally and completely honest, being reliable and
dependable, avoiding stealing or cheating, having
the courage to do the right thing, and being
    loyal, students may be rewarded.

9
Caring
  • When students show care for each other and help
a student out with problems they may not
understand, being kind and compassionate, clean
up papers they may have dropped, or just act nice
to each other, it will earn them Character Counts
    Tickets.

10
Citizenship
  • If students follow the rules and do what they
are supposed to, clean up dirty areas in the
commons area, stay informed, or change rules to
suit everyone better, and do their share to make
the environment a better place for everyone,
there will be a reward for their actions.

11
How does it help?
  • Students who have been portraying the pillars of
Character will be rewarded. It also gives
students a reason to behave in an environment
where they wont be ridiculed by other students
who do not portray good Character. Eventually
students who are outcast will see that it is a
good thing to show good Character.

12
How is it maintained?
  • Our community is very supportive of the
Character Counts program. Each year the community
donates money or prizes so that the store will
    remain open for the students.
