Title: Amazing Fractions

1
Amazing Fractions
  • By Dane N. Aaron B. and Matt L.
  • 8th Period 5

2
Amazing Fractions
  • You use fractions for cooking
  • You use fractions for materials you might need
    for a job.
  • You also use fractions to cut pie.

3
Multiplying Fractions
  • Step one is to write down the problem
  • Step two is to multiply across
  • Once you have multiplied across and you get the
answer and you also need to see if it is in
    simplest form

2/3 x 3/4
2 X 3 6 3 X 4 12
4
Multiplying Fractions
  • If it is not in simplest form you need to find
the GCF of the numerator and the denominator.
  • Once you have found the GCF of the numerator and
the denominator you divide them both by the GCF
  • Now you have put the multiplied fraction into
simplest form and you are now done Multiplying
    the fraction.

2 X 3 6 6 goes into 6 and into
12 3 X 4 12 so the GCF is 6
2 X 3 6 \ 6 1 3 X 4 12 \ 6 2
5
Dividing Fractions
  • After learning how to multiply fractions you now
need to know how to divide them.
  • First you write down the problem
  • After you write down the problem you use the
    method Copy- dot- Flip
  • For Copy- dot- Flip you copy the first fraction
and flip around the second. Then you flip the
division sign to a multiplication sign.

5/8 \ 5/7
5 X 7 8 X 5
6
Dividing Fractions
  • After you copy- dot- flip you multiply across
  • After you multiply across you have an answer that
you might have to put in simplest form.
  • Then you find the GCF of the denominator and
numerator then you divide the fraction by the
GCF and you have now put your answer in simplest
    form.

5 X 7 5 X 7 35 8 X 5 8 X 5 40
35 \ 5 5 goes into 35 and 40 40 \ 5 so the
GCF is 5 so divide
  • \ 5 7 is the
  • 40 \ 5 8 answer

7
Amazing Fractions
  • Now that you have learned these skills you can
    apply them to real life.
  • You can go cook
