Title: JESUS WEPT John 11:146

1
JESUS WEPT(John 111-46)
2
WE MUST REMEMBER
  • Jesus was both human and divine.
  • Just as divine as His Father.
  • Just as human as His mother.
  • Jesus knows how to weep with suffering humanity.

3
Hebrews 415
  • For we do not have a High Priest who cannot
sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all
points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
  • Went through what we go through.
  • He understands.

4
MARY, MARTHA, LAZARUS
  • Jesus loved them.
  • Special family relationship.
  • Often visited their home.
  • Jesus wants to come in to our homes
  • Cant be happy without Him.
  • He will not force Himself on us.
  • He stands at the door and knocks.

5
SICKNESS COMES
  • We need Jesus when we are sick.
  • We need Him when we are well too.
  • The way to have Him with us when we are sick is
to have Him with us when we are well.

6
John 113
  • Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.

7
John 117-8
  • Let us go to Judea again.
  • Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and
    are You going there again?

8
John 1110-11
  • Are there not twelve hours in the day?
If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble,
because he sees the light of this world. But if
one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the
    light is not in him.

9
1 John 17
  • But if we walk in the light as He is in
the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us
    from all sin.

10
John 1111-14
  • ...Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that
    I may wake him up.
  • Lord, if he sleeps he will get well. However,
Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that
He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.

11
LAZARUS IS DEAD
  • When Christians die they are asleep in Jesus
    resting in Jesus.

12
1 Thessalonians 413
  • But I do not want you to be ignorant,
brethren, concerning those who have fallen
asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no
    hope.
  • The Atheist has no hope.
  • The alien sinner has no hope.
  • The erring child of God has no hope.

13
WHEN A CHRISTIAN DIES
  • No reason to sorrow as others who have no hope.
  • We sorrow at the loss.
  • We sorrow that we wont see that person again.
  • We rejoice at that persons reward.

14
MARY AND MARTHARECEIVE COMFORT
  • The Jews come to comfort them.
  • Brethren and friends are a great comfort.
  • Real comfort comes from knowing our loved one
    died in the Lord.

15
Galatians 327
  • For as many of you as were baptized
into Christ have put on Christ.

16
...she heard thatJesus was coming.
  • Martha goes out to meet Him.
  • Meeting bittersweet.
  • Martha and Mary wanted Jesus to come before
Lazarus died because they thought He would
    prevent his death.

17
John 1121-22
  • Lord, if You had been here, my brother would
not have died. But even now I know that whatever
You ask of God, God will give You.

18
Matthew 813
  • Then Jesus said to the centurion, Go your way
and as you have believed, so let it be done for
you. And his servant was healed that same hour.

19
John 1124, 25
  • I know that he will rise again in the
    resurrection at the last day.
  • I am the resurrection and the life. He who
believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never
    die.

20
John 1127
  • Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the
Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the
    world.

21
Romans 109-10
  • that if you confess with your mouth the
Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that
God has raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved. For with the heart one believes unto
righteousness, and with the mouth confession is
    made unto salvation.

22
Acts 837
  • Then Philip said, If you believe with all
your heart, you may. And he answered and
said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
    God.
  • You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
    (Matthew 1616).

23
John 1128
  • The teacher has come and is calling for
    you.

24
John 1131-32
  • Then the Jews who were with her in the
house, and comforting her, when they saw that
Mary rose up quickly and went out, followed her,
saying, She is going to the tomb to weep there.
Then Mary came to where Jesus was, and saw Him,
she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, Lord,
if You had been here, my brother would not have
    died.

25
John 1133-35
  • Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping,
and the Jews who came with her weeping, He
groaned in the spirit and was troubled. And He
said, Where have you laid him? They said to
Him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept.
  • see how He loved him!

26
John 1137
  • Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the
blind, also have kept this man from dying?

27
John 1115
  • And I am glad for your sakes that I was
not there, that you may believe.
Nevertheless let us go to him.

28
John 1139
  • Take away the stone.

29
Luke 133
  • but unless you repent you will all
    likewise perish.

30
Matthew 1032
  • Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I
will also confess before My Father who is in
    heaven.

31
Mark 1616
  • He who believes and is baptized will be saved...

32
John 1139, 40
  • Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has
    been dead four days.
  • Did I not say to you that if you would believe
you would see the glory of God?

33
LAZARUS, COME FORTH!
  • loose him and let him go.

34
John 1145
  • Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and
had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him.

35
John 528-29
  • Do not marvel at this for the hour is
coming, in which all who are in the graves will
hear His voice, and come forth those who have
done good, to the resurrection of life, and those
who have done evil, to the resurrection of
    condemnation.
