  • Animal hides are soaked in bactericides and
detergents to remove the remaining protein and
    prevent the growth of bacteria.
  • They are then sent to a tannery to be preserved
and soften. Once again they are soaked. This time
    in tannic acid solution.
  • The tanned hides are washed and cut to a desired
thickness. They are then go through a dry process.

constantly sprayed with soap and water to avoid

Types of Leather
There are four major types of leather.
  • Full-grain leather has not been sanded or buffed
to remove the natural markings. It is the most
expensive leather, but gives it great strength,
    durability, and breathability
  • Top-grain leather is the top part of full-grain
leather that has been split. It is then buffed
and coated resulting in less breathability. It is
the second highest quality leather, but is also
    the most common.
  • Corrected-grain leather has an artificial grain
added to the surface and are most common for
    pigmented leather
  • Split leather is the bottom half of top-grain
leather, but it can be further broken in down
    into multiple layers.
