Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture came into
existence as the 12th under-graduate course in
the sprawling S.I.T. Campus during the year 1992.
The department is housed in its own building with
excellent infrastructure facilities, in a
beautiful architectural setting. The department
was started with an intake capacity of 40 seats
and now increased to 80 seats. The students get
an opportunity to interact with architects from
Bangalore and also get exposed to the rich
architectural heritage of the metropolitan city
of Bangalore, which is just 60 Km away. The
beautiful campus environment and the salubrious
climate throughout the year in this part of the
country, makes it an ideal place for pursuing
architectural studies.

Department of Biotechnology Engineering
6
Department of Biotechnology Engineering
The Department was started in the year 2006 with
Under Graduate Program B.E. in Biotechnology
Engineering, with an uptake of 30. The
department has recognized as a Research center in
the year 2011 for the students who would like to
pursue their higher studies. Department also
offers one year postgraduate Diploma in
Bioinformatics and Rational Drug Design
(Supported by Karnataka Biotechnology and
Information Technology Services (KBITs),
Government of Karnataka and Department of
Biotechnology, Government of India). Department
imparts training for students to make them
competent, motivated engineers and scientists.
The department has well qualified faculty
members from varied background in Biotechnology
domain. Department has established the
state-of-art Bioinformatics facility,
Fermentation Technology (supported by KBITs) and
Nanobiotechnology (collaboration with Chemical
Engineering Department).

Department of Chemical Engineering
The department was established in 1974. The UG,
PG and research programmes are conducted with the
help of well-qualified and experienced faculty.
Out of 16 faculty members 7 have Ph.D. degrees
and the remaining are working towards their
doctoral degrees. The undergraduate course is
popular, attracting students from all over the
country and Nepal. Indian Institute of Chemical
Engineers' (IIChE) student chapter is functioning
well and many events are organized under the
aegis of the said chapter every year. The UG
programme was accredited one time in the past by
AICTE-NBA for 5 years and recently for two years
2014 to 2016. 80 of our graduating students
are placed in industry and the remaining 20
pursue higher studies in India and abroad. The
department has a strong alumni base who are
actively involved in skill development activities.

Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering has been in
existence since the inception of SIT in 1963. It
has grown into a full fledged Department with
specializations in all the major areas of Civil
Engineering.The academic programmes offered by
the Department are B. E. in Civil Engineering,
M.Techs, M.Sc. Engg (by research) and Ph.D. The
Departmental activities include teaching at UG
PG levels and career counseling for our
students. In addition to academic activities,
the Department is involved in research and
development work and offers consultancy and
technical services to industry and society. With
the introduction of PG programs and recognition
of the Department as VTU research centre the
focus of the Department widened to PG studies and
research in addition to UG activities. Faculty
members are encouraged to upgrade their
qualifications and improve their knowledge base.

Department of Civil Engineering
With SIT becoming an autonomous institution under
VTU in the year 2007 curricula have been updated
on a continuous basis to meet the needs of
industry. Recently the Department has adopted
outcome based assessment system. 70 of the
graduating students are placed in industry and
30 pursue higher studies. The Alumni of the
Department are employed in academic institutions,
industry, and government organizations in
different states of the country and abroad and
many of them have occupied prestigious positions.
Our Department is recognized as one of the best
Civil Engineering Departments in the state of
Karnataka.

Department of Computer Science Engineering
The department was started in the year 1986, with
an intake of 60 students offering a bachelors
degree in Computer Science Engineering, under
Bangalore University. In these years of academic
services, the department has grown up steadily,
and at present the department hosts the following
three autonomous programmer, under the
affiliation of Visveswaraya Technological
University, Belgaum The department has V.T.U
recognized research center, which was started in
the year 2003. At present 21 students are
pursuing Ph.D in the Research Centre and 5 are
awarded Ph.D.

Department of Electronics Communication
Engineering
The department of Electronics and Communication
Engineering was established in the year 1967 for
imparting state-of-the-art education and training
in the field of Electronics and Communication
Engineering. With an initial intake of 30
students the department has grown steadily and
the present intake is 120 students for the UG
programme. The department also offers a PG
programme in Signal Processing with an intake of
18. The faculty strength of the department is
31, including 3 Professors, 8 Associate
Professors, 20 Assistant Professors. Eight of the
faculty have completed their PhDs in IITs and
reputed universities in the area of Speech
Processing, Image processing, Communication. Six
