Me and Jim was a walkin around the island and
spotted a bird flyin weird. Jim said twas
gonna rain. We headed for higher ground. Jim
started a talkin bout supterstishuns and
mentioned that bees don sting idiots. I didn
say nothin but I knew it warnt true because I
never been stung by no bee. Jim also said that
hairy chests make ya rich.

Superstition
I had gone and picked up a snake skin tother
day. Jim told me that it was bad luck to touch
it but I ignored him. He said that he druther
look at a new moon over his shoulder a thousand
times. I told him it happend once and that guy
died. Speakin o dead men, we saw a house with
a dead man. We got some money. Jim said i twas
bad luck to talk about dead men. The snake skin
haunted us by bitin Jim in ta foot.

Well Jim and me got seprated in a fog. We as
hollering all night. I found Jim and told him
twas all a dream. He terpreted the dream and
everything until I told him I uz makin it all
up. He gave me a humblin all right, and I
deserved it.

debatin on whether er not ta steal Jim back. I
decided that Id druther go ter hell then to sit
and let one of my best friends suffer. I knew I

prayed more and gone to Sunday school but it was
to late for that.

Well, we had met a nigger named Nat. He was a
very superstitious feller. He wore ribbons in
his hair to ward off witches. He also had a
weird necklace to protect from witches. In fact,
he was so scared o the witches that he said he
wouldn look when we baked the rope pie for Jim.
