Title: Jer 8:56 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding they hold fast

1
(Jer 85-6) Why then is this people of Jerusalem
slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they
hold fast deceit, they refuse to return. I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright
no man repented him of his wickedness, saying,
What have I done? every one turned to his course,
as the horse rusheth into the battle.
What Have I Done?
2
Need to take inventory on ourselves
  • (Hag 15) Now therefore thus saith the Lord of
    hosts Consider your ways.
  • What have we done with our life?

3
What Have We Done Spiritually?
  • You Have Sinned
  • (1 John 18-10) If we say we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not
sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not
    in us.

4
What Have We Done Spiritually?
  • You Have Sinned
  • (Romans 310) There is none righteous, no, not
one. (vs.23) For all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God.

5
What Have We Done Spiritually?
(Isaiah 591,2) Behold, the Lords hand is not
shortened, that it cannot save neither his ear
heavy, that it cannot hear but your iniquities
have separated between you and your God, and your
sins have hid his face from you, that he will not
hear.
(Ephesians 21) And you hath he quickened, who
were dead in trespasses and sins. (I Timothy
56) But she that liveth in pleasure is dead
while she liveth.
  • You Have Died
  • (James 115) Sin, when it is finished, bringeth
    forth death.

6
What Have You Done Spiritually?
  • Weve Sinned
  • Weve Died
  • We have the opportunity to be reborn
  • (John 33) Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the
    kingdom of God.
  • (John 35) Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

7
We have the opportunity to be reborn
  • (Rom 63-4) Know ye not, that so many of us as
were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
into his death? Therefore we are buried with him
by baptism into death that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
    life.
  • Buried in water to rise as a new life

8
What Have You Done Spiritually?
  • Weve Sinned
  • Weve Died
  • We have the opportunity to be reborn

9
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • Only two things you can do
  • RECEIVE IT
  • REJECT IT

10
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • It must be obeyed
  • (Hebrews 58,9) Though he were a Son, yet
learned he obedience by the things which he
suffered and being make perfect, he became the
author of eternal salvation unto all them that
    obey him.
  • (John 1415) If you love me you will keep my
    commandments.

11
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • No middle Ground
  • Receive it or Reject it
  • (Matt 624) No man can serve two masters for
either he will hate the one, and love the other
or else he will hold to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

12
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • Receiving it means to receive all of it!
  • (James 210) For whosoever shall keep the whole
law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of
    all.
  • Receiving it means to continue in it
  • (James 125-26) But whoso looketh into the
perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein,
he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of
the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

13
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • What are some of the things that we need to
    receive and continue in?
  • (James 126-27) If any man among you seem to be
religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but
deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is
vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and
the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and
widows in their affliction, and to keep himself
    unspotted from the world.

14
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • Pure Religion
  • Service
  • Godliness

15
Service
  • (Gal 69-10) And let us not be weary in well
doing for in due season we shall reap, if we
faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let
us do good unto all men, especially unto them who
are of the household of faith.

16
Godliness
(Col 31-3) If ye then be risen with Christ,
seek those things which are above, where Christ
sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your
affection on things above, not on things on the
earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid
with Christ in God.
  • (Rom 122) And be not conformed to this world
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
  • Renewing of your mind - Repentance

17
What Have You Done With the Gospel of Christ?
  • Received it
  • Receive all of it
  • Continue in what it tells us
  • Rejected it

18
What Have You Done With the Bible?
  • Some have
  • Rejected it
  • (2 Timothy 316) All scriptures are given by the
    inspiration of God
  • (John 1248) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth
not my words, hath one that judgeth him the word
that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in
    the last day.

19
What Have You Done With the Bible?
  • Some have
  • Left it on the table
  • (Romans 1017) Faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.

20
What Have You Done With the Bible?
  • Some have
  • Pervert it
  • Elymas - (Acts 1310) Wilt thou not cease to
pervert the right ways of the Lord?
  • Warning (II Tim 43) For the time will come

21
What Have You Done With the Bible?
  • What Should We Do With It
  • Preach it (II Tim 42) Preach the word
  • Study it (II Tim 215) Study to show
  • Respect it (Matt 44) Man shall not live by
bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of God.
  • Put it in our hearts (Cols 316) Let the words
of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.
  • Defend it (Jude 3) Earnestly contend for the
    faith

22
What Have You Done With Your Talents?
  • Your Time
  • Have you used time wisely
  • (James 414) For what is you life? It is even a
vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and
    then vanished away.
  • (Hebrews 927) And as it is appointed unto men
once to die, but after this the judgment.

23
What Have You Done With Your Talents?
  • Your Ability
  • Are you using your abilities to the fullest
    extent?
  • If we dont use what God gives us - (Matt 2528)
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it
unto him which hath ten talents.
  • (Rom 124-5) For as we have many members in one
body, and all members have not the same office
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and
every one members one of another.

24
What Have You Done With Your Talents?
  • Your Money / Material Possessions
  • (Matthew 619-21) Lay not up for yourselves
treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves break through and
steal But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal
For where your treasure is, there will your heart
    be also.

25
What Have You Done With Your Opportunities?
  • Are we willing to spread the Gospel?
  • (Matthew 2819) (Mark 1615-16)
  • Are you ready to answer the Questions?
  • (1 Peter 315) But sanctify the Lord God in your
hearts and be ready always to give an answer to
every man that asketh you a reason of the hope
that is in you with meekness and fear

26
What Have You Done With Your Opportunities?
  • (Jer 209) Then I said, I will not make mention
of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his
word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up
in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and
    I could not stay.
