ConclusionUnderstanding the Novel
  • A coming of age story, in which a boy has to
    learn how to become a man at an early age while
    faced with many of lifes challenges.
  • -Dealing with death at a young age
  • -father, peer and president
  • -Dealing with change, discipline, and conflict
    throughout his school career
  • Custom helps give Nipper a sense of security,
    hope and comfort in being able to identify with
    himself, his family and his community. Many of
    the customs throughout the novel, are based on
    religious beliefs.
