  • Hernando Cortez was born in 1485 in Medellin,
    Southwestern Spain.
  • He was a Spanish explorer.

Cortez's Accomplishments
  • Hernando Cortez led a successful life. He wiped
    out the whole Aztec Empire. He was also mistaken
    for former king of the Aztecs, Quetzalcoatl.
    Moctezuma gave him riches thinking that Cortez
    was the god who promised to return. Then Cortez
    took advantage of the Aztec Leader Moctezuma and
    his fellow people. War then broke out. Moctezuma
    tried to calm his people, but got struck with a
    stone. The Tabascan Indians and more Europeans
    came to help the Spanish. Cortez had conquered
    what is now Mexico.

  • Before Cortez conquered the Aztecs, he came to
    the Tabascan Indians in Mexico. They fought for a
    while against each other. The Tabascans got
    startled by the cannons. They also thought that
    the Spanish and the horses they rode were one
    creature.

  • Balboa founded the first European settlement in
    South America.
  • Balboa was the first European to see the Eastern
    part of the Pacific Ocean crossing the Isthmus of
    Panama.

  • Spain accused Balboa of treason. He was set up
    by his friend.
  • Balboa was found guilty and was beheaded.

  • Francisco discovered the Southwestern part of the
    United States, including the Grand Canyon.
  • He was later accused of abusing Indians. All
    charges were eventually removed, but he lost his
    place of governor.

  • He was a governor of New Galicia.
  • He failed in his quest for treasure to enrich the
    Spanish empire.
  • He set out in 1950, joined by a large expedition
    of 340 Spanish, 300 Indian allies, 1,000 slaves,
    and both native slaves and Africans, but he came
    back with only 100 of his men.
  • He remained governor even though his expedition
    was a failure.

    was a Spanish Conquistador and defeated the
    Aztec Empire.

    Unfortunately he was unsuccessful with his task
    of finding goods.

  • In the year of 1521, Cortez conquared the city
    of the Aztecs. Cortez built a city from the
    ruins of the Aztecs buildings and temples. There
    he started the wonderful, and magnificant city
    of.... Mexico City!
  • Cortez was in a war against the Tabasco Indians.
    The Tabasco Indians out numbered Cortez' s army.
    In the middle of the war, Cortez brought out the
    horses and cannons. The cannons loud thundering
    startled the Indians. Also, the Indians thought
    that the people riding the horses were one
    person.
