Dr. David Hawkins
  • Without compassion little of significance is
ever accomplished in human endeavor. We may
generalize to the greater social context from
individual therapies, wherein the patient cannot
be truly cured or fundamentally healed until he
invokes the power of compassion both for himself
and others. At that point the healed may become a
    healer.
  • Power vs. Force, pg 57

  • INTRODUCTION
  • THE LIGHT
  • THE TRUTH
  • THE EGO (SMALL self) AND THE SELF
  • THE PATHS
  • THE TOOLS
  • SECONDARY GAINS
  • THE LESSONS
  • SPIRITUAL FIRST AID

4
INTRODUCTION
  • How privileged we are to understand so well the
divine paradox that strength rises from weakness,
that humiliation goes before resurrection that
pain is not only the price but the very
touchstone of spiritual rebirth. Knowing it's
full worth and purpose, we can no longer fear
adversity, we have found prosperity where there
was poverty, peace and joy have sprung out of the
very midst of chaos. Great indeed, our
    blessings!  Bill Wilson

5
Letter to Bill From Carl Jung
  • Dear Mr. WilsonYour letter has been very
welcome indeed.I had no news from Roland H.
anymore and often wondered what has been his
fate. Our conversation which he has adequately
reported to you had an aspect of which he did not
know. The reason that I could not tell him
everything was that those days I had to be
exceedingly careful of what I said. I had found
out that I was misunderstood in every possible
way. Thus I was very careful when I talked to
Roland H. But what I really thought about was the
result of many experiences with men of his
kind. His craving for alcohol was the
equivalent, on a low level, of the spiritual
thirst of our being for wholeness, expressed in
medieval language the union with God.

6
Letter to Bill From Carl Jung
  • How could one formulate such an insight in a
language that is not misunderstood in our
days? The only right and legitimate way to such
an experience is that it happens to you in
reality and it can only happen to you when you
walk on a path which leads you to higher
understanding. You might be led to that goal by
an act of grace or through a personal and honest
contact with friends, or through a higher
education of the mind beyond the confines of mere
rationalism. I see from your letter that Roland
    H. has chosen the second way, which was, under
the circumstances, obviously the best one.I am
strongly convinced that the evil principle
prevailing in this world leads the unrecognized
spiritual need into perdition, if it is not
counteracted either by real religious insight or
by the protective wall of human community. An
ordinary man, not protected by an action from
above and isolated in society, cannot resist the
power of evil, which is called very aptly the
Devil. But the use of such words arouses so many
mistakes that one can only keep aloof from them
    as much as possible.

7
Letter to Bill From Carl Jung
  • These are the reasons why I could not give a full
and sufficient explanation to Roland H., but I am
risking it with you because I conclude from your
very decent and honest letter that you have
acquired a point of view above the misleading
    platitudes one usually hears about
alcoholism. You see, "alcohol" in Latin is
"spiritus" and you use the same word for the
highest religious experience as well as for the
most depraving poison. The helpful formula
    therefore is spiritus contra spiritum.Thanking
you again for your kind letterI remainYours
    sincerelyC. G. Jung

ST MATTHEW 814
  • O HOW NARROW IS THE DOOR AND HOW DIFFICULT IS
THE ROAD WHICH LEADS TO LIFE, AND FEW ARE THOSE
    WHO ARE FOUND ON IT.

9
ST LUKE 1821
  • KINGDOM OF GOD
  • NEITHER WILL THEY SAY, BEHOLD, IT IS THERE! OR,
BEHOLD, IT IS THERE! FOR BEHOLD, THE KINGDOM OF
    GOD IS WITHIN YOU.

10
VOICE OF GOD
  • THE VOICE OF GOD IS INFINITE SILENCE
  • INFINTE SILENCE IS THE SOURCE OF ALL THAT EXISTS
  • BECOME AWARE OF THE SILENCE BY REALIZING IT IS
    THERE
  • STAYING AWARE OF THE SILENCE IS CENTERING

11
ORIGINS OF ADDICTIONS AND EMOTIONAL SICKNESS
(SUFFERING)
  • BELIEF THAT OUR PERSONALITY IS THE ESSENCE OF WHO
    WE ARE
  • BELIEF THAT HAPPINESS IS OUTSIDE THE SELF
  • INABILITY TO STAY CONSCIOUSLY IN THE MOMENT
  • PERSONAL AND MATERIAL ATTACHMENTS

12
ORIGINS OF ADDICTIONS AND EMOTIONAL SICKNESS
(SUFFERING)
  • Think of the physical , biological brain as a
    large computer (hardware)
  • Throughout life (especially early life) this
    computer is programmed with software
  • Software (mind or Ego) consists of all of
opinions, motives and positionalities that one
    possesses
  • Each time you remove a software program you get
    closer to TRUTH (SELF)

13
BELIEF THAT OUR PERSONALITY IS THE ESSENCE OF WHO
WE ARE
  • Notion of Original Sin creates idea that some
    original mistake causes later suffering
  • Sense of guilt or of being wounded
  • Victim/Perpetrator
  • Victim/Survivor
  • Have done something wrong in the past and now
    must suffer/be punished for it
  • Guilt is one of the chief teaching techniques
  • Try not to make mistakes to prove not bad
  • Buddhism-problems are impermanent and seen as
    opportunities

14
BELIEF THAT OUR PERSONALITY IS THE ESSENCE OF
WHO WE ARE
  • HINDUISM (ADVAITA VEDANTA)
  • ONLY ONE REAL THING IN THE UNIVERSE
  • ALL ELSE IS ILLUSION (MAYA)
  • ATMANSOULSELF
  • BRAHMANGOD
  • ATMANBRAHMAN
  • THE ESSENCE OF SELF IS GOD (IMMANENT)
  • ESSENCE IS THE GIFT OF LIFE ENERGY

15
SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND HEALING
  • The more one is in touch with SELF
  • The more SELF can constellate SELF in others
  • THIS RECONTEXUALIZES PATIENTS REALITY SO THEY
EXPERIENCE HEALING ON A LEVEL THAT TRANSCENDS THE
    EGO (Source of all Suffering)
  • THE COMPASSION OF THE PRESENCE (SELF) ALLOWS FOR
THE FEELING OF LOVE PRODUCING PEACE WITHIN AND
    REMOVING INNER AGONY

16
BELIEF THAT HAPPINESS IS OUTSIDE THE SELF
  • TWO PROMISES OF THE EGO
  • Egos products are valuable because they have
    meaning
  • Content is necessary for survival and IT WILL
    BRING HAPPINESS
  • SEEKS HAPPINESS OUTSIDE OF SELF
  • HAPPINESS IS A PART OF ONES ESSENCE-IT HAS
    ALWAYS BEEN THERE

17
INABILITY TO STAY CONSCIOUSLY IN THE MOMENT
THE CONCEPT OF TIME
  • PAST PRESENT
    FUTURE
  • GUILT
    FEAR

18
INABILITY TO STAY CONSCIOUSLY IN THE MOMENT
  • THE FARTHER AWAY ONE IS FROM THE MOMENT THE MORE
    THE SUFFERING
  • FEAR (ANXIETY) IS GENERALLY ABOUT THE FUTURE
  • GUILT AND SHAME (DEPRESSION) IS GENERALLY ABOUT
    THE PAST

19
PERSONAL AND MATERIAL ATTACHMENTS
  • BUDDHISM-ALL SUFFERING IS DUE TO ATTACHMENTS AND
    IGNORANCE
  • ATTACHMENTS TO
  • PEOPLE
  • THINGS (FOOD, DRUGS, WORK)

ALCOHOL/DRUGS
WORK

  • DUALITY AND NON DUALITY
  • Adam/Eve
  • GOD AS IMMANENT, OMNIPRESENT AND TRANSCENDENT

21
THE ZERO POINT FIELD
  • HUMAN BEINGS AND ALL LIVING THINGS ARE A
COALESCENCE OF ENERGY IN A FIELD OF ENERGY
CONNECTED TO EVERY OTHER THING IN THE WORLD. THIS
PULSATING ENERGY FIELD IS THE CENTRAL ENGINE OF
OUR BEING AND OUR CONSCIOUSNESS, THE ALPHA AND
    THE OMEGA OF OUR EXISTENCE.
  • McTAGGART, THE FIELD, PROLOGUE, pg xxiii

22
THE ZERO POINT FIELD
  • THE FIELD IS OUR HEART, OUR BRAIN, OUR MEMORY AND
MUST BE TAPPED INTO TO HEAL
  • IT IS THE ONLY REALITY. EINSTEIN
  • NEWTON, DESCARTES AND SCIENCE CANNOT EXPLAIN
    SUBJECTIVITY-THE REALM OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND
    SPIRITULITY
  • WRONG PARADIGM

23
THE ZERO POINT FIELD

AND SPIRITUALITY TO EXPLAIN WHAT THEY HAD FOUND
  • PAULI- ARCHTYPES AND THE QABBALAH
  • BOHR- TAO AND CHINESE PHILOSOPHY
  • SCHRODINGER- HINDU PHILOSOPHY
  • HEISENBERG- PLATONIC THEORY OF ANCIENT GREECE

24
THE ZERO POINT FIELD
  • THEY HAD DISCOVERED THAT OUR INVOLVEMENT WITH
    MATTER WAS CRITICAL
  • SUBATOMIC PARTICLES EXISTED IN ALL POSSIBLE
    STATES UNTIL OBSERVED BY US
  • LIVING THINGS ARE PACKAGES OF QUANTUM ENERGY
CONSTANTLY EXCHANGING INFORMATION WITH THE FIELD
  • COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS
  • HOLY SPIRIT
  • LIFE FORCE

25
CHAOS THEORY
  • Vast world of connectedness in both visible and
    invisible domains
  • Based on discovery of inherent organized patterns
    (attractors)
  • Edward Lorenz (1960) plotted temperature, air
    pressure and wind direction
  • Lorenzs Butterfly (first attractor pattern)

26
LAW OF SENSITIVE DEPENDENCE ON INITIAL CONDITIONS
  • Every subtle change effects everything else
  • Every event connected to every other event.
  • A small change at the start can have a large
    impact at the end.

27
HEISENBERG UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE
  • You can either know a particles position or
    momentum, but not both
  • Any attempt to observe (measure) the electron
    alters it
  • There is no such ting as an independent observer
    (objectivity)
  • Intention influences outcome

28
JOHN VON NEUMANN FORMULA
  • The effect on a physical world by the intention
    of a human observer
  • Action of the conscious observer will lead to one
    of two possible feedback responses
  • Yes-collapse of wave form
  • Not yes

29
HOLOGRAPHIC Paradigm
  • David Bohm- A hologram represents both a visible
(unfolded or explicate order) reality and an
invisible (enfolded or implicate order) reality
  • Every point contains the whole
  • The appearance of the hologram changes based on
    the viewpoint of the observer
  • Implies an unseen realm that governs the
    observable world

30
William Blake, Auguries of Innocence
  • To see a world in a grain of sand,
  • And a heaven in a wildflower,
  • Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
  • And eternity in an hour

  • IT IS A FACT OF NEUROSCIENCE THAT EVERYTHING WE
EXPERIENCE IS ACTUALLY A FIGMENT OF OUR
    IMAGINATION. Although our sensations feel
accurate and truthful, they do not necessarily
reproduce the physical reality of the outside
world. Of course, many experiences in daily life
reflect the physical stimuli that enter the brain.

33
  • But the same neural machinery that interprets
actual sensory inputs is also responsible for our
dreams, delusions and failings of memory. In
other words, the real and the imagined share a
physical source in the brain. SO TAKE A LESSON
FROM SOCRATES ALL I KNOW IS THAT I KNOW
    NOTHING.

LEFT/RIGHT BRAINJILL BOLTE-TAYLOR
  • Right Hemisphere-Parallel Processor
  • Left Hemisphere-Serial Processor
  • Communicate through the Corpus Collosum
  • 300 million axonal fibers
  • Each hemisphere thinks differently and care about
    different things

35
RIGHT HEMISPHERE
  • The Present Moment-Right here and now
  • Thinks in pictures and symbols
  • Receives sensory information that allows us to
understand what the moment feels like, smells
    like and tastes like
  • Sensory collage
  • Connects to the energy all around us
  • We are energy beings connected to everything
through the consciousness of our right hemisphere

36
LEFT HEMISPHERE
  • Linear and methodical
  • All about the past and the future
  • Takes the collage of the present moment and
    categorizes and organizes the informational
    details
  • It then associates this information with what we
have learned from the past and projects it into
    the future

37
LEFT HEMISPHERE
  • Thinks in language
  • It is the ongoing chatter in the brain
  • It is calculating intelligence (survival and
    gain)
  • It says, I am
  • This separates us from everything else
  • The Experiencer
  • Ego
  • Animal brain heritage

38
LEFT/RIGHT BRAIN
  • If disconnected from the brain chatter that
connects us to the outer world the mind is silent
  • Lose the complications of the past and future and
become overwhelmed by the peacefulness of the
    moment
  • The more time we spend in the inner circuitry of
our right hemisphere the more peace we project
    into the world

69
ATTRACTOR FIELDS
  • CONSCIOUSNESS IS ENTRAINED BY A CALIBRATED LEVEL
OF CONSCIOUSNESS WHICH PREVAILS AS A HIDDEN
    ATTRACTOR FIELD
  • WHAT APPEARS TO BE RANDOM OR UNCONNECTED
OCCURENCE IS ACTUALLY AN INVISIBLE ORGANIZING
ENERGY FIELD OF INFLUENCE AFFECTING THE
OCCURRENCE OF PHENOMENA WITHIN EACH LEVEL OF
    CONSCIOUSNESS

70
ATTRACTOR FIELDS
  • Brain is a tool where linear and non-linear
    meet
  • Brain is a receiver that converts unseen energy
    into SOUND AND THOUGHT FORMS
  • Ones level of consciousness serves as an
attractor field for energy with the same
    attractor energy

71
ATTRACTOR FIELDS
  • Think of an attractor field as a light spectrum
  • To people in the blue rangeeverything looks blue
  • To people in the yellow rangeeverything looks
    yellow
  • Tend to attract people of same range and deny
    other ranges

72
ATTRACTOR FIELDS
  • Each attractor field presents an array of choices
    (INTENTIONAL SET)
  • THE MORE YOU MAKE A PARTICULAR CHOICE THE MORE
LIKELY YOU ARE TO MAKE THAT CHOICE AGAIN
  • EXAMPLE-BEING KIND TO EVERYONE INCLUDING YOURSELF
  • THE LEVELS OF CONSCIOUSNESS (LOC) IS AN
    INDEPENDENT FIELD THAT CONTAINS CONCORDANT
THOUGHT FORMS ATTUNED TO THE FREQUENCY OF THE
    ATTRACTOR FIELD

73
ATTRACTOR FIELDS
  • THOUGHT FORMS LEAD TO ASSOCIATED EMOTIONS AND
BEHAVIORS (INFLUENCE OF LOC OF BOTH PERSON AND
    SOCIETY)
  • We call this ME
  • EACH LOC HAS ITS POSITIONALITIES (BASIC
    POSTULATES AND BELIEFS)
  • EXAMPLE-RIGHT AND WRONG SIDE, CAUSE FOR
    EVERYTHING, SOMEONE IS TO BLAME

74

75
LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • Intrinsic to Psychological and Emotional Make-up
  • Correlates with capacity for Spiritual Awareness
  • Philosophical Attitudes
  • Politics
  • Justice
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Influences Physiology

76
LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • WHAT IS THE
  • PURPOSE OF LIFE?
  • Determined by LOC and brain physiology

77
LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • WHAT IS TRUTH?
  • What the ordinary mind presumes to be truth is
actually a processed composite of thousands of
variables of differing degrees with superimposed
    editing, selection, distortion, and
    emotionalized, preferential evaluation.

  • ABSENCE OF GODS LOVE AND PRESENCE
  • LUCIFERIC (TAKING FALSEHOOD AND TURNING IT INTO
    TRUTH)
  • PRIDE, ARROGANCE, DOMINANCE
  • SATANIC (EVIL IN THE WORLD)
  • PAIN, SUFFERING, TORTURE

HEREBY REJECT THE ENERGY OF CONFUSION AND
    DISORDER

THE EGO (small self) AND THE SELF
  • THE SELF
  • THE EVOLUTION OF UNCONSCIOUS PROCESSES
  • THE EGO
  • MOTIVES, OPINIONS AND POSITIONALITIES
  • TRANSCENDING THE IDENTIFICATION WITH SMALL SELF

80
THE SELF
  • From the SELF, the small self or ego emerges
  • This activates life on the linear level
  • Adam and Eve
  • From non-linear to linear
  • Small self is involved in personal gain and
    survival
  • It believes it is a separate self and calls
    itself I or Me
  • Operates on an unconscious level with conscious
    products called opinions, positionalities, etc.

81
THE SELF
  • The small self or ego is the experiencer
  • It has a narcissistic core
  • DESIRE
  • PRIDE
  • It gets juiced by hatred, revenge and other
    negative emotions plus Secondary Gains
  • With spiritual development, movement takes place
    toward the SELF

82
EVOLUTION OF UNCONSCIOUS PROCESSES
  • Plants
  • PHOTOSYNTHESIS
  • Animals
  • NEED TO GO OUTSIDE OF SELF TO SURVIVE
  • UNCONSCIOUS RULES FOR SURVIVAL
  • EGO DEVELOPED AS A SURVIVAL MECHANISM

83
EGO
  • Ego cannot survive without reference points
    (something outside of self)
  • Self and other definitions (software)
  • This is also the basis of duality
  • You-Me
  • Cause-Effect
  • In nonduality there is no need for reference
    points
  • Ramana Maharishi-Who am I?

84
EGO
  • IMPERSONAL
  • EVERYONES ACTS ABOUT THE SAME
  • SELF-SERVING
  • EGOTISTICAL
  • POSITIVE GAIN
  • RESULTING IN
  • GUILT
  • GREED
  • RAGE
  • JEALOUSY

ENDLESS SUFFERING
85
EGO
  • SELF GIVES THE EGO (small self) ITS CAPACITY FOR
    AWARENESSS
  • WITHOUT THE LIGHT OF SELF, THE EGO WOULD NOT EVEN
    KNOW OF ITS OWN EXISTENCE
  • EGO REFUTES ITS SOURCE AND CLAIMS TO BE SEPARATE.
  • EGO CAN ONLY ADVANCE TO THE LEVEL OF REASON AND
    INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY

86
EGO
  • AT LOWER LEVELS IT TENDS TOWARD PRIDEFULLNESS AND
    CLAIMS CREDIT AND AUTHORSHIP
  • INCREASED HUMILITY LESSENS THE GRIP AND ALLOWS
    FOR SPIRITUAL AWARENESS
  • COMPASSION TRANSFORMS PERCEPTION INTO VISION
  • SMALL SELF DISSOLVES INTO SELF AT LOC OF 600

87
Motives of the EGO

EGO FUNCTIONS STRUCTURE OF THE EGO
  • Achilles Heel
  • IT CANNOT PRODUCE SUSTAINED HAPPINESS
  • IT IS AN ENDLESS SOURCE OF SUFFERING

ILLUSION OF SEPARATE SELF
  • EGO as the principle actor in the melodrama of
    life.

91
ILLUSION OF SEPARATE SELF
  • Requires energy to constantly defend self
  • Important to survival
  • Necessary to be right at all costs

THE PATHS
  • MANY PATHS TO GOD
  • THREE TRADITIONAL PATHS
  • THE PATH OF THE HEART
  • THE PATH OF THE MIND
  • THE PATH OF ACTION

93
THREE PATHWAYS
  • HEART
  • DEVOTION
  • WORSHIP
  • SURRENDER
  • MIND (PATH OF NON-DUALITY)
  • MEDITATION
  • SPIRITUAL STUDY
  • RELINQUISH POSITIONALITIES
  • ONE-POINTEDNESS OF MIND
  • TRANSCEND OPPOSITES

94
THREE PATHWAYS
  • Both pathways involve ACTION
  • PERSEVERANCE
  • SELF-DISCIPLINE

95
HEART PATHWAY
  • LOVE
  • PERSONAL Love LOOKS FOR GAIN
  • SPIRITUAL LOVE IS NOT AN EMOTION
  • State of Awareness
  • A way of being in the world
  • A way of seeing self and others
  • Desire to make others happy overrides selfishness

96
HEART PATHWAY
  • LOVE
  • CONTEXT IS SET BY INTENTION
  • MOTIVE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
  • EXAMPLE INTENTION COULD BE TO MAKE MONEY
  • MOTIVE COULD BE LOVE OF FAMILY OR OUR WORK (AS
OPPOSED TO GREED AND PRIDE OF THE EGO)
  • WHEN YOU MAKE A DECISION ASK
  • WHO IS THE THINKER BEHIND THIS DECISION?
  • IS IT THE SELF OR THE self?

97
HEART PATHWAY
  • ONE MAKES A GIFT OF ONES LIFE AND ENDEAVORS BY
SANCTIFYING IT WITH LOVE, DEVOTION, AND SELFLESS
    SERVICE
  • WHEN YOU GIVE YOU GIVE TO THE UNIVERSE
  • SATCHITANANDA (TRUTH, CONSCIOUSNESS, BLISS)
  • SAINTHOOD (MOTHER THERESA)

98
MIND PATHWAY
  • NO MIND
  • PATH OF NON-DUALITY, NEGATION OR ADVAITA
  • Remove illusion that thoughts are personal,
    valuable and originate from oneself
  • Defects in genetic programming and invalid
software are involuntary impositions and not
    likely to be rewarding

  • SPACE FROM WHICH TO ADDRESS MIND
  • ALLOWS FOR DEPROGRAMMING OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • RELATIVELY MOTIONLESS AND STABLE
  • CLOSE TO SELF
  • CAN BE ONE-POINTED AND COMMITTED
  • MOST PROFITABLE PERSPECTIVE FROM WHICH TO
    APPROACH THE MIND

102
NONDUALITY OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • TOOLS OF THE SPIRITUAL WILL

DEVOTION DEDICATION PERSEVERANCE INSPIRATION
103
NONDUALITY OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • SPIRITUAL WILL
  • ACTIVATED AND EMPOWERED BY DEVOTION
  • RESPONDS TO INSPIRATION
  • LEADS TO ILLUMINATION BY GRACE
  • THE PERSONAL WILL DISSOLVES INTO SPIRITUAL WILL
    LEADING TO SPIRITUAL SEARCH
  • PROFOUND DEVOTION AND DEDICATION CAN OVERCOME EGO
    AND RESISTANCE

104
NONDUALITY OF CONSCIOUSNESS
  • AT THIS POINT, WAY OF THE HEART AND WAY OF THE
    MIND MERGE WITH ACTION
  • SPIRITUAL WILL DETERMINES DESTINY (KARMA)
  • IT IS THE SEAT OF POWER OF THE SELF

  • HUMILITY
  • SURRENDER
  • FORGIVENESS
  • LOVE
  • HONESTY
  • GRATITUDE
  • APPRECIATION
  • KINDNESS
  • SELFLESS-SERVICE (ALTRUISM)

108
BEING HUMAN
  • Brain is limited by physiology and genetics. This
understanding leads to HUMILITY, FORGIVENESS and
    SURRENDER.
  • Freud-out of guilt our animal nature is repressed
and projected outward as CHARACTER DEFECTS
  • One must master the world before one can
    transcend it.

109
HUMILITY
  • The limitations of the mind
  • Often cannot tell essence
  • Mind left to its own will make mistakes
  • Mind can only know about
  • Empowering (Not a Weakness)
  • Relieves the guilt that accompanies doubt and
    denial
  • Egos belief that it knows Reality results in
    pride and defensiveness
  • Ignorance is guarded by egocentricity

110
HUMILITY
  • Opens up the door to knowledge
  • Attitude of inquiry
  • Sermon On The Mount (Lost/Found)
  • Humility as altruism
  • Not holding oneself above others
  • Treating others as if they were oneself
  • Leviticus 1918 Love your neighbor as yourself
  • One is a studentNot on a pedestal
  • The Cloud of Unknowing

111
SURRENDER
  • Unresisting acceptance of something as
    inescapable
  • Spiritual surrender is admitting that were not
in control.  Its getting ourselves out of the
way and trusting a Higher Power to guide us.
Spiritual surrender frees us from fear and
anger, gives us answers to difficult dilemmas,
points us in the right direction, and grants us
    peace.
  •

112
SURRENDER
  • Surrender is not about giving up or giving in to
the wishes of another. It is about accepting the
moment at hand and realizing there is Perfection
within the moment. It is the power to accept each
moment for what it is rather than yearning for it
to be something else. More often than not, our
minds want us to believe that the past "should
not" have been the way it was and that we do not
deserve what the past gave to us or what the
future may hold. Our mind, reflects over and over
how it should have been or it takes us on a
journey into the future of which we could never
predict. In this process we loose hours and days
of our lives to meaningless thought.

113
SURRENDER
  • It is about living each moment as it comes and
not worrying about what has taken place in the
past or what may happen in the future. It is
about being certain that each moment of your life
is being lived exactly as it is supposed to be to
learn the lessons you were brought here to learn.
If in the state of surrender than the truest
thoughts are always, "Thy will be done."

114
SURRENDER
  • What is Spiritual Surrender? The Process of
    Releasing Attachment and Expectation
  • The ability to remain unattached to results leads
to happiness. The attachment to a certain outcome
    results in suffering.

115
SURRENDER
  • Surrender invites Divine Grace
  • Surrender is the process whereby the underlying
REALITY OF THE SELF becomes progressively
discovered as self dissolves into SELF
  • Enabled by FAITH, CONVICTION and INTENTION

116
SURRENDER
  • Surrender is a spiritual miracle. It teaches us
how to see God with our eyes closed, how to talk
to Him with our mouth shut. Fear enters into our
being only when we withdraw our surrender from
    the Absolute.

117
PRAYER AS SURRENDER
  • Supplication (also known as petitioning) is the
most common form of prayer, wherein a person asks
a supernatural deity to provide something, either
for the person who is praying or for someone else
on whose behalf a prayer of supplication is being
    made-WIKIPEDIA
  • Over time the intention to control GOD is given
up and prayer becomes a dedication or willingness
to be a servant of GOD and a channel of HIS WILL
    (SURRENDER)

118
FORGIVENESS
  • Is not the same as absolution.
  • We surrender and forgive to get rid of
    resentments
  • Forgiveness is the mental and/or spiritual
process of ceasing to feel resentment,
indignation or anger against another person for a
perceived offense, difference or mistake, or
ceasing to demand punishment or restitution.

119
FORGIVENESS
  • To receive forgiveness from God there are three
    requirements
  • Recognizing the offense itself and its admission
    before God.
  • Making a commitment not to repeat the offense.
  • Asking for forgiveness from God.
  • If the offense was committed against another
human being, or against society, a fourth
    condition is added
  • Recognizing the offense before those against whom
offense was committed and before God.
  • Committing oneself not to repeat the offense.
  • Doing whatever needs to be done to rectify the
offense (within reason) and asking pardon of the
    offended party.
  • Asking God for forgiveness.

120
SELF-FORGIVENESS
  • When our actions have hurt others we need to
    forgive ourselves
  • Not hold ourselves responsible for pain that
others have caused us. Especially when it was not
our fault or we could not change the situation.

121
GUILT
  • GUILT CAN BE AN ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE SALVATION,
MANIPULATE GOD PURCHASE FORGIVENESS BY SUFFERING
  • COMES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A PUNISHING GOD
  • IN REGARD TO PENANCE
  • ASK FOR FORGIVENESS

Elizabeth Kubler Ross,1926-2004
  • And after your death, when most of you for the
first time realize what life here is all about,
you will begin to see that your life here is
almost nothing but the sum total of every choice
you have made during every moment of your life.
Your thoughts, which you are responsible for, are
as real as your deeds.  You will begin to realize
that every word and every deed affects your life
and has also touched thousands of lives.
