Query Differences 7.6 vs. 8
  • Web-based not dependent upon software.
  • Query is still located under PeopleTools
  • NEW in Version 8 VCCS Common Queries
  • Will be logged in the web-based Query Catalog
  • Will always contain a prefix of VX_

Running Queries
  • Helpful to know the query name or first letter.
  • Click Run
  • More Flexibility With Query Output

  • To locate and run an existing query, enter the
    first few letters of the query name and click
    search

  • A list of available queries will open
  • Click Run to run the query.

  • If the query has any prompts, a dialog box will
    open for you to enter the prompt values
  • When finished, click View Results

  • The results will appear on the page as well as
    the option to download to Excel 97, 2000 or a
    .csv file.

    appropriate file type.
  • You will have the option to open or save the
    file

Running Reports
  • Some college custom reports may be adopted as
    VCCS Custom Reports. Examples
  • NSLC (developed by BRCC)
  • Class Schedule (developed by JSRCC)
  • NO NEED For More Than One Run Control
  • We Recommends Creating only ONE Run Control Named
    The Same As Your Login ID.

Running Reports
  • When running SQR reports, select Web as the
    type and PDF as the format. Other options may
    be available later.

  • Select the CORRECT server for the report you are
    running
  • IF the Process Type is SQR, you must select the
    PSUNIX server
  • IF the Process Type is Crystal, you must select
    the PSNT server
  • Once you click the Run button, a process
    instance number will appear. Do not click Run
    again.

  • Monitor the report progress in the Process
    Monitor. Once the report is finished, the run
    status will say Success

  • In PS 8 you can open a report from the Process
    Monitor or from Report Manager.
  • Once the report has successfully completed, click
    details, The Process Detail page will open

  • Click View Log/Trace.
  • A new window will open with links to the message
    log, the trace file (for SQRs) and the report
    output.

  • Click the link to the report (pdf) to open it.
  • You can return to Report Manager or the Process
    Monitor to view/print the report for up to 15
    days. After that, the report will be deleted.
  • For reports that you normally printed from a
    panel in Version 7.6 (i.e. Cashier receipts,
    student study lists, etc.), you must go to Report
    Manager to get your output.

  • There will be a Query database in V8
  • Colleges will still have the ability to create
    queries
  • You can no longer scroll through table list, but
    CAN scroll through table names beginning with a
    specific letter.
  • Must save a query before you can run it.

  • Once Query Manager opens, it may look different,
    but the functionality is very similar.

  • The Records tab is where you search for and
    select tables to add to your queryNO

    Version 7.6

  • Once you have selected one or more tables, the
    Query tab shows all tables/fields available for
    your query

  • The Expressions tab is where you create, view and
    edit expressions within your query

  • The Prompts tab is where you add, edit or delete
    prompts used for your query

  • The Fields tab shows all the fields you have
    selected for your output and allows you to edit
    them (change header, sort, etc.)or add criteria

  • The Criteria tab shows you the criteria used in
    your query and allows you to edit or delete
    criteria

  • The Having tab allows you to add or edit a
    having clause to your queryNOTE
    Having clauses allow you to filter results from
    aggregates.

  • The View SQL tab displays the SQL code that was
    generated by the Query Manager.
