- No matter where they may go or what they do, no
human alive can escape the snare of their deepest
flaw utter selfishness. In Arthur Miller's play,
The Crucible, he introduces characters sweltering
and bubbling with greed. He invites his audience
to bear witness as his characters blindly enslave
themselves to materialism. He shows the world how
fear for one's own life can push someone to
horrible limits. Most disturbing of all, he
uncovers the disaster brought by a covetous
desire. A combination of these selfish forces
brings disaster to the innocent.
5What does a Concluding Paragraph do?

Miller uses these sad characters to give
todays society a glimpse into a world of selfish
destruction. This is a world in which material
things whip minds into horrible shapes, where
death frightens people more than the prospect of
their charred soul and a school-girl crush can
morph into a killing spree. Perhaps after
witnessing this world Millers audience will seek
to change their own selfish world.

- Introduces the main idea for the entire

A main point generally explains why the TS is
true, but does not provide exact or detailed
proof from text. Use BLUE Ink for your General
Statements!

EX- A sentence about the what, the facts, the
surface info which can be a paraphrase or a
quotation from the text. Provide a Page using
MLA format! Always start your example sentence
with your own words to lead into a

word for word excerpt you take from the

12What is a Body paragraph Concluding Sentence?
In the concluding sentence you close out the
paragraphs idea and provide a transitions that
suggests a leading thought into the next
paragraph. Tie your conclusion to your TS so
that they share the same main idea, however, you
should avoid repeating the exact wording that you
used in your TS.

13Bradbury's character Eckles in "Sound of Thunder"
demonstrates the consequences of breaking
nature's laws.
Also, Eckles breaks the protective rules that the
time travelers were told to follow.
To begin with, Eckles disregards the laws of time
by traveling in reverse.
In the end, Bradbury reveals the harsh reality of
breaking nature's laws.
He greedily pays money to exist before Christ,
Moses, and the Egyptian pyramids so he can kill a
mighty dinosaur (73).
After he sees the T. Rex coming toward him,
Eckles panics and "walks blindly to the edge of
the Path and steps off" even though Travis had
warned never to leave the path (78).
Once the safari guide realizes how Eckles has
changed everything he "shifts his rifle,
clicks the safety catch, and raises the
weapon to destroy Eckles (81).
Instead of finding sport and entertainment in
his own time he selfishly skips back to an
ancient age causing unnecessary harm to the
future world.
This one false step kills an innocent butterfly,
which sets in motion a chain of events that
change the delicate balance of nature and the
history of mankind.
Since the damage is irreversible Travis can only
find justice in taking Eckles life as a payment
for the lost world.
While Bradbury's abrupt ending predicts the
deadly results of tampering with nature, tther
futuristic short stories warn about different
dangers.
