Ask for the Spirit

If you then, being evil, know how to give good
gifts to your children, how much more will your
heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who
ask him (Luke 1113).

Father, I believe you have sent the Holy
Spiritthe Paracleteto be my Companion and
Comforter. I believe your Son wants me to have a
close and forever relationship with the Spirit.
So I open my heart and life to him. I ask you to
give me the gift you have promised. I trust your
Spirit because I know you. He is everything I
have come to know and love about Jesus, my Lord.
Let your Spirit do his transforming work in me.
Make me the disciple you, your Son, and your
Spirit want me to be.

Father. I have invited your Spirit into my life.
Now I need to know him. I want to learn who he is
and what he does and how he acts. Teach me about
your Spirit. Allow your Spirit to show me what I
have the capacity to see. Let me understand his
names and his nature. Teach me his ways and his
work. Let him be my Companion in word and deed.
Allow me to walk with him intimately, as I long
to walk also with you and with your Son.

Develop Spirit Eyes

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on
what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary,
but what is unseen is eternal (2 Cor 418).

Father, forgive my blindness to your Spirit. Heal
me so that I may see. Once, it is true, I was
convinced I saw everything clearly and, so, I
remained blind. But now I know I need your
healing touch, opening my blind eyes and deaf
ears and dead heart. Grant me the ability to see
your Spirit, Father, andin turnI will give you
my fixed attention.

Build a Spirit Vocabulary

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by
human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit,
expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words
(1 Cor 213).

Father, I confess that I am slow of tongue when
it comes to matters of the Spirit. Jesus, please
touch my tongueas you did with the mute manso
that I can speak plainly about the Spirits
work within me. Spirit, forgive me for hardly
understanding much less being able to talk about
spiritual truths in spiritual words. I want my
speech to honor you and to be a constant
testimony to your grace, goodness, and power.

Live in the Spirit

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step
with the Spirit (Gal 525).

Holy Father. You have promised that the Paraclete
will live in me and walk with me through all the
highways and byways of my life. Teach me that I
also live in him and walk with him. Let me devote
my life to the Spirits control and to his
leading. Help me to live in Spirit-ways,
according to the Spirits wisdom and power. Let
me keep in step with the Spirit, even as he walks
beside me as my Companion and Guide.

Pray in the Spirit

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in
your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit
(Jude 120).

Father, you have given me the Paraclete to stand
beside me and speak up for me. Remind me that I
am not alone when I pray to you, that your Spirit
gives my prayers power and boldness. And help me
trust that your Spirit will be my Intercessor,
that he will speak up for me, that he will groan
and plead on my behalf. Teach me to pray in the
Spirit and with the Spirit and through the Spirit
to pray because the Spirit is in my heart and
on my mind.

Discover your Spiritual Gifts
22
Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not
want you to be ignorant (1Co 121).

Father, please give me the wisdom to know what my
true gift is and the courage to use it selflessly
in the service of your kingdom. Forgive me when I
have hidden your gift away and kept it from the
Body. You, through your Spirit, have equipped me
to make a difference for your people and in the
world. Convict me, by your Spirit, of the need to
use my gift for your glory.

Discern the Spirit in Others
25
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but
test the spirits to see whether they are from
God, because many false prophets have gone out
into the world. This is how you can recognize the
Spirit of God Every spirit that acknowledges
that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from
God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge
Jesus is not from God. (1 John 41-3)

Father, give me Spirit eyes. Help me see the
world, other people, and myself as you do. Teach
me to recognize your Spirit in my brothers and
sisters, to discern whether the Spirit is burning
bright or dim in them. Give me compassion and
patience with those who do not know your Spirit
as well as I do. Give me humility and respect for
those who know your Spirit better. Grant me the
gift of discernment so I can know who to lead and
who to follow.

Father, I know that everything that belongs to
you has been given to your Son. And I know that
everything Jesus had, he gave to the Holy Spirit.
And now, I know, everything you have entrusted to
the Spirit is being poured into me. I am too
small to contain it all. I am weak and blind and
so limited. Let your Spirit show me the fullness
of your Son and the glory of yourself. I praise
you and worship you and gratefully give my life
to you. I pray this in the name of the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Father, thank you for revealing yourself and your
will and your Spirit to me. Im eager for more.
Give me the courage to share this good news with
others. Give me the wisdom to share it well. And
give me the compassion to love people whatever
their response, however ready or not they may be.
Prepare the hearts of those I love to hear my
testimony to the indwelling Spirit. I trust you
to open ears, to determine the time, and to
anoint my conversations. May my every effort be
for your glory and the good of your people.
