Crime Scene Recognition

• 1.1 Explaining how to search, sketch, and record
  data from a crime scene.

Steps

1. Define the extent of the crime scene
2. One room?
3. Any cars in the driveway possibly involved?
4. Blood trail down the street?
5. Secure the crime scene and any other areas that
   MIGHT be part of the scene.
6. Police officers secure core area most obvious
   area where evidence is concentrated.
7. CSI will block off a larger area when they arrive.

• Call in the D.A. --- WHY?
• Once search warrant is obtained, walk-through
  begins
• Make observations of details that will change
  with time (weather, time of day, smells, sounds,
  and anything that appears out of place).
• Identify any potential hazards (gas leak, guard
  dog).

• Call in needed specialists.
• Talk to 1st responders
• Was anything moved?
• Any helpful information?
• Most DO NOT talk to witnesses.
