6
Why Did Jesus Die On The Cross?
  • He gave Himself as a ransom.
  • A ransom is a price paid to liberate or to
redeem. We are bought with a price. 1 Cor.
    619-20.
  • Since man is carnal, sold under sin (Rom.
714), it was necessary that Divine Justice
should receive a price that would deliver the
    souls of men.
  • Silver and gold could not redeem man. 1 Pet.
    118-19.
  • Animal blood could not redeem man. Heb. 104.
  • Human life was inadequate to redeem man, as it
would be the substitute of one sinner for
    another. Rom. 323.

The only price that could accomplish our
redemption was voluntarily paid by our Lord on
the Cross. 1 Pet. 118-19.
7
Why Did Jesus Die On The Cross?
  • He gave Himself that we might be reconciled to
    God.
  • While we were enemies, we were reconciled to God
through the death of His Son. Rom. 510.
  • He reconciled the world, not reckoning unto them
their trespasses. 2 Cor. 518-19 cf. Heb.
    88-12.
  • To be reconciled means that sins, which alienated
us from God, have been forgiven. This was
possible because He made peace through the blood
    of His cross. Col. 120.
  • We receive this reconciliation personally when we
repent and are baptized into Jesus Christ. Acts
    238 Gal. 326- 27

8
Why Did Jesus Die On The Cross?
  • His death on the cross was a propitiation an
    appeasement. (Rom. 325-26 cf. 1 John 22)
  • That God might be JUST!

9
Why Did Jesus Die On The Cross?
  • He gave Himself on the cross for ME!
  • He died for our sins. 1 Cor. 153.
  • Christ also suffered for you. 1 Pet. 221.
  • He suffered for sins once, the righteous for the
unrighteous, that He might bring us to God. 1
    Pet. 318.
  • Him who knew no sin he made (to be) sin on our
behalf that we might become the righteousness of
God in him. 2 Cor. 521
  • Who his own self bare our sins in his body upon
the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might
live unto righteousness by whose stripes ye were
    healed.

Jesus, both Priest AND Victim! Heb. 727-28
Heb. 925-26

    smitten of God, and afflicted.
