3Living with Plastics
Every year, more than 200 Million tonnes of
plastics are produced all over the world.
200 Million tonnes 200,000,000,000 kilograms!
4Living with Plastics
Every week, 10 Billion plastic bags are used
around the world
10 Billion 10,000,000,000 plastic bags!
5What We Throw Away
6 Million tonnes 6,000,000,000 kilograms
Sadly, every year 6 Million tonnes of rubbish and
thrash that we throw away end up in our
Oceans.90 of the rubbish are PLASTICS!
6What We Throw Away
Plastics that we throw away go into the drain,
then into streams, rivers and finally, the
oceans.

7What We Throw Away
Plastics take MORE THAN 450 YEARS to decompose
(i.e. to break down)
Plastic bottles 450 Years!
8What We Throw Away
Today it is estimated that 100 Million tonnes of
plastics are FLOATING in our Oceans.
100,000,000,000 kilograms of plastic floating in
the sea today!
9What We Throw Away
These floating plastics then come together in
areas called the Plastic Soup
10What We Throw Away
In the ocean, plastic materials break into
smaller pieces that float in the sea water like
soup".
11What We Throw Away
These tiny plastics are then eaten by fish like
this Rainbow runner and other marine animals
12What We Throw Away
Some poor animals also get tangled up with these
plastic materials as they swim in the sea.
13Plastic Pollution on Our Beach
A beach in Malaysia polluted by plastics! Not so
beautiful now isnt it?
14Plastic Pollution on Our Beach
A remote area in North America polluted by
plastics from the sea.
15Plastic Pollution on Our Beach
A beach on a remote island about 1,500km from
Hawaii. Plastic arrives here!
16What Can We Do?
Try not to use plastic bag so much!
17What Can We Do?
Avoid using plastic food containers and utensils
(fork, spoon, straw etc.)
18What Can We Do?
Use water bottles that we can re-fill and re-use!
19What Can We Do?
Pick up thrash and rubbish from our beaches!
20What Can We Do?
Take part in beach clean-up activities!
21What Can We Do?
Organize a beach clean-up event with your friends
and family!
22What Can We Do?
If youre a scuba diver, why not take part in an
underwater clean-up?
23What Can We Do?
Tell your family and friends about this issue of
plastic pollution!

30Shark Conservation
- Every year, more than 38 Million
- sharks are killed to get their fins
- Malaysia is the 10th LARGEST
