Chronology of Events
  • 2005 The State of Florida Agency for Persons
    with Disabilities decided to begin closing the
    Gulf Coast Center facility located in Fort Myers.
    Final closing scheduled for June 30, 2010.
  • August 2009 - FGCU received statutorily defined
    letter from the Department of Environmental
    Protection (who manages state lands) inquiring if
    FGCU or other government agencies or
    municipalities wished to have the Gulf Coast
    Center transferred to them.
  • FGCU and Lee County responded an interest.
  • September 2009 - FGCU received correspondence
    that the State was interested in amending the
    FGCU land lease to include the Gulf Coast Center.
  • January 19, 2010 - After careful review of the
    Center, FGCU brought the offer before the
    University Board of Trustees who authorized the
    transfer.

    operating dollars in the 2011 legislative
    session.
  • Additionally, FGCU will seek revenue generating
    activities
  • Sublease to county or other government agencies.
  • Off set current costs of off campus leadership
    retreats
  • Part of various research grant overhead revenue.
