Title: Do parents really know what is happening

1
         utah's freedom conference       educatio
n seminar
  • Do parents really know what is happening
  • in Utah schools?
  • Oak Norton Susie Schnell
  • UtahsRepublic.org

2
Background
  • No times tables, long division, division by
    fractions
  • IE. no future in math
  • 20 failure rate on UBSCT
  • UVU has Remedial Math Dept.
  • "It's time to recognize that, for many students,
real mathematical power, on the one hand, and
    facility with multidigit, pencil-and-paper
computational algorithms, on the other, are
mutually exclusive. In fact, it's time to
acknowledge that continuing to teach these skills
to our students is not only unnecessary, but
    counterproductive and downright
    dangerous.-Steven Leinwand 1994, NSF Expert
    Panel
  • When I started into the math war I had no idea it
was tied to the battle for the Constitution
  • "Enculturating the Young into a Social and
    Political Democracy"
  • 5 years to truly understand what this meant
  • Formed UtahsRepublic.org since republic wasnt
    in state history standards

Background (Cont.)
  • Susie's Story
  • We are a Democracy? The 5000 Year Leap is pure
    science fiction?
  • Enculturating sign led to ASD website which
    stressed democracy training over academics
  • Link on ASD website, America Republic or
Democracy led to Green Party candidate, Bill
Meyers, who believes Founding Fathers were
predatory elitists only out for wealth and gain
and they created the Constitution to give
themselves power. We started out originally as a
Republic but since the Constitution was such a
terrible idea, people have been trying to change
our nation into a democracy for two centuries.
    http//www.williampmeyers.org/republic.html Bill
Meyers' beliefs anarchy, limiting families to
two children, late-term abortions, Christ was
actually a vampire disguised as a God. This is
    ASD's expert on America's government?
    http//www.iiipublishing.com/books/books_main.html
  • Viral email to wake up community, over 200
parents at next  board meeting, they call
us 'special interest group' that they won't bow
    down to

5
Why won't our school administrators listen to
reason?
  • Why are parents the bad guys for bringing up
these concerns to the school board?
  • Because there are two completely different
purposes for education and parents are starting
    to figure that out.

6
What is the purpose of public education?
  • Founding Fathers
  • Marxists/Communists/Socialists
  • To perpetuate tyrannical government
  • To produce non-thinking workers and followers
  • To teach atheism
  • To encourage immorality
  • To take a child away from its parents as soon as
possible so it belongs to the state
  • Federally controlled and financed
  • To have a well-informed citizenry
  • To know and protect our God-given rights
  • To teach religion
  • To teach morality
  • To ensure freedom
  • To resist tyranny
  • Localized control to keep it out of the hands of
    the federal government

7
45 Goals of the communists
  • From Cleon Skousen's "The Naked Communist"17.
Get control of the schools. Use them as
transmission belts for socialism and current
Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get
control of teachers' associations. Put the party
line in textbooks.18. Gain control of all
    student newspapers.32. Support any socialist
movement to give centralized control over any
part of the culture-- education, social agencies,
    welfare programs, mental health clinics,
etc.36. Infiltrate and gain control of more
    unions. (NEA-Endorses Alinsky)
  • 41. Emphasize the need to raise children away
from the negative influence of parents. Attribute
prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of
children to suppressive influence of parents.

8
Yuri Bezmenov - KGB Defector
  • 4 Steps to Communist Takeover of a Country
  • Demoralization - 15-20 years
  • Process of making a country immoral so they no
longer believe truth when it is presented to them
  • Destabilization - 2-5 years
  • Create conditions where tipping points can occur
  • Crisis - 6 weeks
  • Tipping points to seize power
  • Normalization
  • Success Government Control

9
who has been influencingAmerican public
education?
  • Which Founding Fathers are we following?

10
Karl Marx 1818-1883
  • Communist Manifesto
  • 10. Free education for all children in government
    schools...
  • Ezra Taft Benson
  • "There were several reasons why Marx wanted
government to run the schools.one of them...that
if every party in the State has the right of
excluding from public schools whatever he does
not believe to be true, then he that believes
most must give way to him that believes
least...It is self-evident that on this
scheme, if it is consistently and persistently
carried out in all parts of the country, the
United States system of national popular
education will be the most efficient and
widespread instrument for the propagation of
atheism which the world has ever seen.
    (Conference Report, October 1970.)

11
Horace Mann 1796-1859
  • Developed compulsory schooling model.
  • What the church has been for medieval man, the
public school must become for democratic and
rational man. God will be replaced by the concept
of the public good. The common (public) schools
shall create a more far-seeing intelligence and a
pure morality than has ever existed among
    communities of men.

12
John Dewey 1859-1952
  • Father of Modern Education
  • 1894-Chairman of the dept. of philosophy,
psychology, and pedagogy at the Univ. of Chicago
  • 1899- President of the American Psychological
    Association
  • Taught at Columbia Univ. from 1905 until he
    retired in 1929
  • "The voice of liberal and Progressive Democracy"
    for over 50 years
  • One of the original signatories on the Humanist
    Manifesto.

13
Humanist manifesto - 1933
  • Based on Communist manifesto (atheistic)
  • Elevates man, eliminates God
  • FOURTEENTH The humanists are firmly convinced
    that existing acquisitive and profit-motivated
society has shown itself to be inadequate and
that a radical change in methods, controls, and
motives must be instituted. A socialized and
cooperative economic order must be established to
the end that the equitable distribution of the
means of life be possible. The goal of humanism
is a free and universal society in which
    people voluntarily and intelligently cooperate
for the common good. Humanists demand a shared
    life in a shared world....
  • So stand the theses of religious humanism

14
Bill Ayers 1944-
  • 1960's-Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in
    Chicago
  • Weather Underground Founder
  • Wanted Marxist Revolution
  • Switched from revolutionary change to
    evolutionary change
  • Became head of Education Dept at Univ of Chicago
  • Candidate Obama announced his political career in
    Ayers' living room.

15
Weather underground manifesto
  • In the history of some external colonies, such
as China and Vietnam, the struggle for
    self-determination has had two stages (1) a
united front against imperialism and for New
Democracy ... and (2) developing out of the new
    democratic stage, socialism.
  • The goal is the destruction of US imperialism
and the achievement of a classless world world
    communism.
  • How do we reach youth what kinds of struggles
do we build how do we make a revolution- What we
have tried to lay out so far is the political
content of the consciousness which we want to
extend and develop as a mass consciousness the
necessity to build our power as part of the whole
international revolution to smash the state power
of the imperialists and build socialism.

16
John Goodlad 1917-
  • Nationally recognized education reformer
  • Invited to BYU's McKay School of Education 25
years ago to set up his Democracy Agenda
  • Set up a Public School Partnership with 5
    neighboring school districts(Alpine, Nebo,
    Provo, Wasatch and Jordan)
  • Wrote book called Moral Dimensions of Teaching.
One of the four dimensions is Enculturating the
Young in a Social and Political Democracy
  • Charlotte Iserbyt calls him America's premier
change agent" in her book The Deliberate Dumbing
    Down of America

17
john goodlad quotes
  • Parents do not own their children. They have no
natural right to control their education
    fully.
  • Most youth still hold the same values of their
parentsif we do not alter this pattern, if we
dont resocialize, our system will decay.
  • A standardized curriculum of basic skills such
as reading, writing and arithmetic cannot prepare
people to participate in a democracy. Enlightened
social engineering is required to face situations
    that demand global action now.
  • The state we should strive for is better
described in Deweyan terms as a social
    democracy.  (Def. Democratic welfare state)
  • The curriculum of the future 'will be what one
    might call the humanistic curriculum.'

18
What is the difference between John goodlad and
bill ayers?
  • (One used to blow up buildingsthat's about it)
  • Education Department heads
  • National speakers and authors on education reform
  • Social justice
  • Democracy
  • Moral Relativism
  • Humanism
  • Socialism
  • Ayers is the Keynote Speaker at Goodlad's
2010 NNER Conference in which top McKay School of
Education and Alpine School District leaders
attend, serve on executive committees, and
receive awards for pushing Goodlad's agenda.

19
How is the Goodlad-ayers agenda  brought into our
utah schools?
  • Universities
  • Teachers and administrators then bring it into
    schools
  • University/Public School Partnerships
  • Professional Development Centers
  • National Conferences
  • Funding through universities and school districts
  • Signs and posters in school hallways and classes
  • Flatter teachers and leaders with awards and
recognition (4 of 30 National AED Scholars are in
    Utah County)

20
Educations Goal?
  • "Education should aim at destroying free will so
that after pupils are thus schooled they will be
incapable throughout the rest of their lives of
thinking or acting otherwise than as their school
    masters would have wished ..."
  • Bertrand Russell quoting Johann Gottlieb Fichte,
the head of philosophy psychology who
influenced Hegel and others Prussian University
    in Berlin, 1810

21
Outcome Based Education?
  • This is the idea where we drop subject matter
and we drop Carnegie Unites (grading from A-F)
and we just let students find their way, keeping
them in school until they manifest the
politically correct attitudes. You see, one of
the effects of self-esteem (Values Clarification)
programs is that you are no longer obliged to
tell the truth if you dont feel like it. You
dont have to tell the truth because if the truth
you have to tell is about your own failure then
your self-esteem will go down and that is
    unthinkable.-
  • Dr. William Coulson, explaining Outcome Based
    Education (OBE)-1964

22
Higher order Thinking?
  • "a student attains higher order thinking when
he no longer believes in right or wrong. A large
part of what we call good teaching is a teachers
ability to obtain affective objectives by
challenging the students fixed beliefs. a large
part of what we call teaching is that the teacher
should be able to use education to reorganize a
    childs thoughts, attitudes, and feelings."
  • Benjamin Bloom, psychologist and educational
theorist, in Major Categories in the Taxonomy of
    Educational Objectives, p. 185, 1956

23
Children are insane?
  • "Every child in America entering school at the
age of five is insane because he comes to school
with certain allegiances to our founding fathers,
toward our elected officials, toward his parents,
toward a belief in a supernatural being, and
toward the sovereignty of this nation as a
separate entity. Its up to you as teachers to
make all these sick children well by creating
the international child of the future."
  • Dr. Chester M. Pierce, Harvard Professor of
Education and Psychiatry, address to the
    Childhood International Education Seminar, 1973

24
Why the push for democracy in schools?
  • C.S. Lewis in Screwtape Proposes a Toast (a
    satire on American education)
  • Democracy is the word with which you must lead
them by the nose. They should never be allowed
to give this word a clear and definable
    meaning...whether democratic behaviour means
the behaviour that democracies like or the
behaviour that will preserve a democracy. For if
they did, it could hardly fail to occur to them
that these need not be the same...As an English
politician remarked not long ago, A democracy
    does not want great men.
  • Democracy is indispensable to socialism.
    Vladimir Lenin
  • Democracy is the road to socialism.  Karl Marx

25
How to Hijack a word to dupe the public
  • Constitutional Republic
  • Democratic Republic
  • Democracy
  • Social Democracy
  • Democratic Socialism
  • Socialism
  • Other examples to watch out for in schools Gay,
Tolerant, Safe Schools, Morals, Values, Critical
    Thinking
  • (All are defined very differently by Progressive
education elites than what parents assume they
traditionally mean. This is a way Progressive
programs slip into schools without parents
    knowing.)

26
subjects affected
  • Alpine School District
  • Thus, the task of readying the young for
democratic life is the business of all educators.
Along with our social studies and history
teachers, others must incorporate this objective
into their curriculum. Math teachers must help
students gain a respect for inductive proof and
    certainty in argumentation. The music
teachers could help students gain a sense of
responsibility to the group and playing in
harmony with other citizens. Our English
teachers should teach the responsibilities of
expression and choice. Of course, our
administrators ought to help students understand
that a democratic society cannot survive without
respect for rules, law, and order. Every teacher
should have this major board objective in mind as
he/she prepares the curriculum. Parents, too,
ought to incorporate these objectives into their
    familys environment.

27
A specific exampleMath Moral Relativism
  • If there is no God, there are no absolutes so
    everything becomes relative. We democratically
arrive at a consensus based on the majority in
    areas of
  • Knowledge, Morals, Patriotism
  • Constructivist Math
  • Dumbed-down math (no times tables, long division,
    weak homework)
  • Group work / strategies
  • De-emphasize results Emphasize process
  • Common Core math standards - national standards
    ?  national tests  ?  national curriculum ?
teachers salaries tied to students test scores
?  teachers teaching to the test each and every
day  ?  national indoctrination of our public
    school children  ?  national database
  • 100 of Utah state income taxes and 56 of
property taxes go to fund education
  • 9 of our school money comes from the Federal
government which gives them 100 control.

28
Summary
  • Now we see why
  • Parents' concerns fall on deaf ears
  • Failed programs are allowed to continue
  • Academics, Constitution, morality and religion
    are not being taught
  • Global progressive political programs are pushed
  • Until parents and teachers wake up to the truth
that the federally-funded public schools have
been taken over by people who want to use schools
for indoctrination centers to change America
instead of to keep America educated, moral and
religious,  and we DO something about it, this
    cycle will continue.

29
Some solutions to consider
  • Legislative
  • Partisan board elections-School board elections
are the most important elections in the country
because the rising generation determines the
    future of the country
  • Backpack funding (money follows the child)
  • Give school community councils more power and
authority to function like a school board
  • Adopt Texas history standards
  • Solid K-8 math curriculum (Singapore or Saxon
    math)
  • Home and Community
  • Turn the populace to God - reinvigorate morality
    to reverse demoralization
  • Know your board member and other representatives
  • Know what is going on in your child's classroom.
    Watch for troubling homework
