  • Our Mission
  • To protect human health and the environment.
  • Since 1970, EPA has been working for a cleaner,
    healthier environment for the American people.

EPA Who We Are
  • EPA employs 17,000 people across the country,
    including our headquarters offices in Washington,
    DC, 10 regional offices, and more than a dozen
    labs.
  • Our staff are highly educated and technically
    trained more than half are engineers,
    scientists, and policy analysts. In addition, a
    large number of employees are legal, public
    affairs, financial, information management and
    computer specialists.

  • Expand our capabilities to effectively respond to
    releases from all hazards, including chemical,
    biological and radiological incidents.
  • Continue to work with our water utility partners
    to strengthen the nations ability to detect and
    prevent potential terrorist attacks.

    infrastructure to provide clean and safe water
    for every American.
  • Make better use of our resources and help the
    nations water and wastewater systems be more
    efficient.

  • Clean Energy and Climate Change
  • Help the nation jump off the treadmill of foreign
    oil dependency.
  • Reduce its dependency on foreign oil by 20
    percent in 10 years by increasing vehicle fuel
    efficiency and accelerating the development and
    use of alternative domestic sources of energy.
  • Encourage the advances in clean energy, which
    power our economy and drive our environmental
    successes.
  • Implement an aggressive yet practical strategy to
    reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, protect
    the American economy, and engage the developing
    world.
