  • To work division equations it important to know
how to transfer numbers from one equation to
    another.
  • First lets learn some terms.
  • Division
  • Taking one group and making it as many equal
sized groups as possible. The inverse of
    multiplication.
  • Dividend
  • The number being divided.
  • Divisor
  • The number that will divide the dividend.
  • Quotient
  • The result or answer to a division problem.

3
Word Form and Basic Division Form
  • Word Form
  • Divide your Dividend by your Divisor.
  • The answer equals your Quotient.
  • Basic Division Form
  • The Dividend is placed under the bar in a basic
    division format.
  • The Divisor is placed to the left of the
parenthesis in a basic division format.
  • The Quotient is placed above the bar in the basic

How to Check by Multiplying.
  • When you divide, you may check by multiplying.
  • You do this by multiplying the Divisor and the
    Quotient.
  • You need to now add the Remainder to the Product.
  • If the result is equal to the Dividend then you
    are correct.
  • The Divisor and Quotient are the Factors in the
    multiplication problem.
  • The Dividend is the Product in the multiplication
    problem.

9
  • The main thing that you want to remember in this
example is that the remainder is zero.
  • If you had a remainder, it would have to be added
to the product in order to equal the dividend.
