• Sometimes stress causes rocks to bend, while
  other times it may break.

Deformation

• When a rock changes shape due to stress
• Occurs as bending or breaking
• Two types of stress
• Compression when two plates collide and squeeze
  together
• Tension when force stretches an object

• Occurs when rock layers bend due to stress in the
  Earths crust
• Anticlines
• Synclines
• Monoclines

• Rock layers are folded, but are still horizontal
  on both ends
