Evolution

• The first plants evovled from plant like
  protists, similar to alagae.
• The first true plants were still dependent on
  water to complete their life cycles.
• Early plants were similar to mosses (grew close
  to the group).

Mosses (Bryophytes)

• Dont have vascular tissue
• Depend on water for reproduction
• Draw water by osmosis
• Grow only a few cm from the ground

Ferns (Seedless Vascular Plants)

• Vascular tissue xylem and phloem
• Produce spores
• Depend on water for reproduction

Gymnosperms (Cone Bearers)

• Reproduce with seeds that are exposed
• Pollen
• Ex. Pine trees

Angiosperms (Flowering Plants)

• Have unique reproductive organs called flowers
• Flowers contain ovaries, which surround and
  protect the seeds.
• Enclosed seed
• Ovary develops into a fruit, which protects the
  seed and helps on dispersal.

• Parallel veins
• Ex. Corn and Lily
