The Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
  • Each countrys national body assigns an
    organization to be the TAG for an SC
  • ANSI has given AIM the administration
    responsibilities for the TAG to SC 31
  • Each TAG sends a delegation to the SC meetings
  • The Head of Delegation (HoD) votes for the TAG

Task Groups
  • Task groups are made up of members of each
    countrys Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
  • They work on approved projects and recommend new
    projects
  • They bring their proposals and their work to
    their TAG so that the countrys position can be
    developed

The ISO Process
  • Task Groups submit new project ideas to their TAG
  • If approved at the TAG level, the National Body
    (NB) brings the proposal to the SC
  • If the SC approves the proposal they bring it to
    JTC 1
  • If JTC 1 approves the proposal, they advise the
    SC to create a Workgroup
  • The TAG then creates a Task Group

  • The Workgroup starts with a NB or regional (EU)
    standard or starts from scratch
  • This becomes a Working Draft (WD)
  • When the WG believes the document is close to
    completion, the WG issues a Committee Draft (CD)
  • The SC National Bodies vote on the CD
  • The WG takes the comments on the CD and prepares
    a Final Committee Draft (FCD)

  • The SC National Bodies vote on the FCD
  • The WG then prepares a Ballot Resolution and with
    substantive change goes through the FCD process
    again. If changes are editorial, the WG issues a
    Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)
  • The ISO National Bodies vote on the FDIS
  • If approved, the FDIS becomes an ISO standard

interoperability The capability to communicate,
execute programs, or transfer data among various
functional units in a manner that requires the
user to have little or no knowledge of the unique
characteristics of those units. In RF tag
applications, this is the ability of any
compliant tag from any manufacturer to
communicate information to any compliant
interrogator of any manufacturer. non-interference
Components (tags, readers) of various types or
of different origins co-existing within the same
space (in conformance with established re-use
distance criteria) without having a serious
detrimental effect on one anothers performance.
Does NOT require that the components communicate
with one another as a part of a common
infrastructure, but only that they are able to
peacefully co-exist. interchangeability A
condition which exists when two or more items
possess such functional and physical
characteristics as to be equivalent in
performance and durability, and are capable of
being exchanged one for the other without
alteration of the items themselves, or of
adjoining items, and without selection for fit
and performance.

CEPT/ERO DSI III Recommendations
  • It is recommended (that for short-range devices
    (SRDs) (including RFID) that a strategic plan be
    developed by the ERC for the frequency range
    862-870 MHz with extensive sharing possibilities.
  • It is recommended that the plan should include
    the use of Spread Spectrum technology for all SRD
    applications in the 862-870 MHz in order to
    achieve the highest degree of flexibility.

  • Includes three 2.45 GHz and one UHF physical
    interfaces
  • Also includes ANSI T6 developed API approved for
    use by ALL current and future ANSI-compliant RFID
    products for item management at every frequency
