A little direction for todays journey...

As we get started today, there is a point that
needs to be made very clear, simply stated, its
the content thats important--never let the
technology be the driving force, rather, realize
its potential and let it be an instrument to
implement change. Only after we understand that
can we begin...

Whats out there for us?

We have SOOO much to teach, but not enough time
to get to it all!!! I want to use the Net in my
room, but for crying out loud, every time my
students start surfing they end up wasting
valuable time on things that have no relevance to
the curriculum. I know technology is important,
but Im sick and tired of constantly stumbling
across sites dedicated to Brittany or BinLaden!
(this is the teacher at the technological
crossroads the one whose is at a critical point
in their teaching career)

How do I find the best sites on the Net?

You have a couple of options here. I
recommend the following www.google.com www.cyber4
11.com www.dogpile.com A tremendous amount of
specificity will yield the best results

7
Making the sites available to your students...

Create a hotlist This is a pretty simple process
that can be done using just about any word
processing software.

Have a plan and dont get trapped
by the technology.

Technology for technologys sake is educational
malpractice! Make sure that there is a purpose
for using the Net in your instruction, if there
isnt, youre performing an incredible disservice
to your students. The following
slides/activities will give you a great
application.

But what if I like the rolls?

If you like the rolls, you better kiss the
lobster and steak good-byetheres just no room
for both. But in keeping with the food metaphor,
heres a quick Recipe-4-Success.
