Conservation and Land Management
  • Overview of data resources.
  • As an agency with integrated
responsibilities, we manage lands and waters for
the conservation of biodiversity at ecosystem,
species and genetic levels, including management
for the renewable resources they provide, and for
the recreation and visitor services they can
    sustainably support.

Spatial information at the Department of
Agriculture WA
Spatial information at the Department of
Agriculture WA is coordinated by the Client and
Resource Information System, or CRIS.
CRIS handles the day-to-day management and
integration of information systems within the
Department.
CRIS also provides the following services to
clients inside and outside the agency.
  • A range of existing web maps called Reporting
    Interfaces available on-line 24/7.
  • Custodians of a wide range of data that can be
used to generate customized maps in a range of
    formats.
  • Provides GIS services to provide spatial
    analysis of any suitable data.

48
Department of Agriculture
Overview of data resources.
The Department of Agriculture WA holds a number
of datasets relating the the infrastructure of
Western Australian rural industries and natural
resources.
These include
A state-wide property spatial database - this
includes links to management and business
contacts eg brands etc.
Property infrastructure for all pastoral leases
Property infrastructure and farm plans for a
large number of properties in south-western
Australia
These data are available on permission from
property owners.
49
Department of Agriculture
Overview of data resources.
Soil-landscape resources - soil-landscape mapping
at scales between 150,000 and 1250,000
Vegetation extent in Western Australia at scales
between 120,000 and 1100,000.
A consistent pre-European (pre-clearing)
vegetation type dataset for the whole state. A
dataset for current vegetation extent-by-type can
be generated by intersecting the two vegetation
datasets.
Areas of vegetation protected through the Office
of the Commissioner for Soil and Land
Conservation and various funding schemes eg
Remnant Vegetation Protection Scheme.
