1September 11, 2001 became an important day in
American history. It was a very sad day, but
many people volunteered their time, money and
even their own homes to support complete
strangers. People showed tremendous character
and patriotism during this time. September 11 is
now called Patriot Day- you will find out why at
the end of this slide show. On the next few
slides you will see the events that happened on
that day. Please know that the United States has
been working very hard to make sure something
like this does not happen again.
2These two buildings were the Twin Towers in New
York City. They were part of the World Trade
Center and each of them housed many different
businesses.
3On September 11, 2001, two planes flew into the
Twin Towers. They had been taken over by
terrorists. This news was sent immediately all
over the world, and everyone was shocked and
scared.

7Then the South Tower was hit at 903 a.m. By
this time everyone knew this was no accident, and
all planes around the country were forced to land
at the closest airport. The airplanes were
grounded for a week, and the people on those
planes had no other way to get home.

9As the two towers burned, everyone inside got out
as quickly as possible. Every policeman,
fireman, and ambulance worker in the area raced
to the towers to help get people out safely.

11The smoke from the towers could be seen for miles
and miles. People in the area had trouble
breathing and had to cover their mouths with
their shirts.
12Terrorists were mad at the United States, and so
they planned this attack. September 11 can be
written as 9-11. 911 is also the number to call
in case of an emergency. If you look at the
towers, they also make an 11.
13Nobody had any idea what to do. Many people
could not get home because the public
transportation (subway, buses, etc.) that
everyone uses in New York was closed down.
People were worried about more terrorist attacks.

31This tragedy devastated many people. For days,
even weeks and months, people volunteered their
time to clean where the Towers stood. This place
was renamed GROUND ZERO.
32These two lights shine in honor of the Twin
Towers. They represent where the two towers used
to be.
33The site where the Twin Towers stood has been
made into a memorial. The two waterfalls are
located where the towers used to stand.
34The country mourned for a very long time. Even
though this was a terrible tragedy, many positive
things came from this experience.
35So, what good could have come from 9-11?
36Well, first of all, many people showed tremendous
character.
Here people from all walks of life wait in line
to contribute to the relief effort.
