The most critical element of business health is
motivating employees. People get motivated if
they are provided with the right
environment. First, sharing a vision and sense
of purpose together. Second, people get excited
when they feel they have accomplished
something. Third, if there are inspiring people,
and they work with the people they like, they
become motivated and excited. Fourth, they would
like to grow personally and professionally. So
how we provide opportunities for personal and
professional growth is an important
factor. Lastly, people want to get recognized and
they want to be rewarded.

LG Announces First WCDMA Phones Capable of
Worldwide Roaming
On Feb. 12, LG Electronics announced that two
of its handsets, the LG-KM560 and LG-KP330, were
selected to spearhead the GSM Associations
(GSMA) Horizon Phone initiative. These LG
handsets are the first 3G models that can
automatically roam in 220 countries, as they
support all three WCDMA bands (850, 1900 and 2100
MHz) as well as conventional GSM bands. With
other handsets it is impossible to roam across
regions that use different frequencies, as mobile
phones typically only support one or two bands.
The selection of LGs HSDPA phones for the
GSMAs Horizon Phone initiative demonstrates that
operators have recognized LGs strong commitment
to advanced technologies and business practices
in 3G, said Dr. Skott Ahn, President CEO of LG
Mobile Communications Company.

Nanjing Production Subsidiary Produces of Over 2
Million PDP Modules
The Nanjing Production Subsidiary produced
over 2 million PDP modules starting from 2004.
After producing 1 million PDP modules last July,
in just 17 months, they have produced a total of
over 2 million PDP modules. The President of
the Nanjing Subsidiary, Jung Bae Yang, wrapped a
red silk over the 2 millionth PDP module to
celebrate the event and thanked the employees for
their hard work. J.B. Yang said, As long as our
hearts are set on the same goal, we can
accomplish everything.

Waste Elimination through Technical RD Dong-A-Ri
Activities

division. In the beginning, the T2 Group members
formed Dong-A-Ris depending on the product they
were developing to conduct Waste Elimination
Activities. However, there were difficulties in
finding waste due to the differences in the
knowledge of the engineers. To resolve this
issue, H.S. Choi reorganized the group members to
form Dong-A-Ris with those that had the same
engineering skills. As a result, they were able
to find waste and conduct Waste Elimination
Activities much more effectively. H.S. Choi
also approached time analysis in a different
manner. First, he had his group members list
their work for each day and then write down waste
factors throughout the day.
He also suggested that they write down solutions
to eliminate the waste factors. They found that
most of the waste factors derived from
experimentation, meetings, and reports. In
particular, they had redo their reports several
times. To reduce the burden of writing reports
and redoing reports, they put together the
know-hows of all the engineers and shared it
with everyone in the group. They then held a Quiz
Session within their group to help group members
remember and follow the know-hows to work more
efficiently. Through these activities, the
engineers were able to focus more on core work.
