One More Story
27
It is always good to remind your child
about Safety
This boy had been working on a dairy farm since
elementary school
Keith was always careful
Any child can benefit from safety reminders
28
Parents were central
in developing NAGCAT
Many different views about farm safety
Parents
Parents like yourself
Whenever you see something like this, you almost
always see something that maybe you havent been
stressing or maybe you forgot about.
We dont always have the luxury of having 8 or
10 people sit around and think of things that
could happen
Things you might have forgotten or you havent
thought about

Time is a big enemy, you know. And money
Doesnt cost a lot of money
Parent in Madison County
Time Money
Doesnt take a lot of time to do
Life is just so busy. Youre constantly going
and you dont take time to think of these things
until something happens. An accident happens
It is worth a little inconvenience.

30
Opportunity for a full experience
NAGCAT is not about making your child a bubble
kid
I guess if you were to limit all risks, then you
would have to keep them inside all the time
Yeah, in the house in a bubble. They could be
bubble kids
31
Influencing your child's behaviors
You can preach, preach, and preach about safety,
but it isnt going to soak in until they come up
with the short end of the stick then it sinks in.
You are making a difference by talking to your
child!
32
Trusting your child
Checking on your child doesnt mean that you
dont trust your child to do the work
Well, theres no child on this earth that
doesnt need to be checked Its a definition
of child.
Do you trust your child to do what is expected
without anyone checking? YES. But it is a
mistake to not check.

33
Be assured by using NAGCAT
You are doing the best you can to keep your child
safe
I mean, this would give me a peace of mind too,
knowing that Ive gone over this with the kids.
Even if youve been doing 90 of everything that
you see here, its the other 10 that maybe
Everybody needs a refresher.

One parent said...
I think most parents especially the farming
community will do everything they can do to
protect their children. They are our most
valuable asset and were going to take care of
them anyway we know how, unless we dont know
how.
NAGCAT helps parents know how
Share the experience of many farm parents and
other experts
Discussion with parents in Madison County (2004)
35
By preventing farm accidents...
  • it is more likely that your child will continue
to do farm related chores and benefit from such
    activities

My plans for the future are to farm mostly help
out right here.
36
  • Following NAGCAT can reduce the risk of financial
    losses

there was a dairy operation and these people
had to go bankruptcythey had so many bills to
keep the child alive that they had to sell the
farm.

37
AND if you follow NAGCAT
You know you are doing your best to create
healthy and successful experiences on the farm
for your child
