7
Categories of Time Use
  • As you consider the things you need to
accomplish, try to place them in categories of
    importance.
  • Important and Urgent
  • Important but not Urgent
  • Urgent but not Important
  • Busy Work
  • Wasted Time

8
Important and Urgent
  • These are things that must get done, immediately
or in the very near future.
  • Example Endless things are due NOW

9
Important but not Urgent
  • Important things we postpone
  • Example Personal issues. Errands, phone calls,
    appointments, etc.
  • All of these things have one thing in common
  • What?

10
Urgent but not Important
  • These are the things that clamor for immediate
action, but we would assign them a low priority
    if we examined them objectively.
  • Example Helping someone else when you really
    need to be helping yourself.

11
Busy Work
  • There are many tasks that are marginally worth
doing but are neither urgent nor important.
  • Example Sit down to do one thing and end up
    doing another.

Wasted Time
  • Example Television viewing, web searching with
    no reason, etc.
