5 words I didnt know.
  • I didnt know what atrocious meant. The sentence
it is in is She woke to Lupes whimpering and an
atrocious smell. Based on the sentence it means a
horrible smell. It means extremely wicked, brutal
    or cruel.
  • Another word that I didnt know was chorizo. The
sentence its in is and other specialties like
chorizo and pigs feet. Based on the sentence it
means a king of meat. The real definition is a
pork sausage highly seasoned especially with
    chili powder and garlic.
  • I didnt know what perspired meant. The sentence
its in is Her skin perspired and she felt cold
and nauseous. Based on the sentence it means
she's scared or cold. The real definition is to
    emit matter through the skin.
  • I didnt know what chinaberry was. The sentence
is Straight ahead across a dirt road were
chinaberry trees and a mulberry tree that
provided shade over a table. It means based on
the sentence a tree with berries. The real
definition is a small Asian tree of the mahogany
family naturalized in the northern United States
where it is widely planted for shade or ornament.
  • I didnt know what ay meant. It was in the
sentence Ay my neck hurts said mama as she
massaged the back of her head with her hand. It
means to express sorrow or regret.

The Dust Bowl.
  • Sometimes the dust can be so thick it hides the
    sun.
  • The dust bowl can be so bad that even if your
wearing goggles the dust will get into your eyes
    still.
  • If the dust from the dust bowl gets into your
system you can get very sick or maybe even worse
    than that.
  • The dust bowl destroyed five million acres of
wheat and people on the rode had to try and make
    it home.
  • Sometimes the dust bowl got so bad that people
    abandoned their land.

9
Similes, Metaphors and Alliteration.
  • Esperanza is like a dog.
  • Esperanza is like a monkey.
  • Esperanza is a fish.
  • Esperanza is a turtle.
  • Esperanza cracked an egg into the east side of
the bowl then put in a drip of eggnog.
  • Esperanza went east to eat at her table .

10
Compare and Contrast.
11
How I think the author feels.
  • I think the author feels that Esperanza has a
good life until she has to move to a different
place. I also think that she thinks that she is
very lucky that shes rich and has a vineyard.
Based on the way the book was written she
probably meant to write it this way So Esperanza
would have a great life then it would change to
ok then back to good. She also probably feels sad
when her mom goes to the hospital because shes
    sick.
