FYSH Fourth Year Scheduling Helper
  • Similar to, but not the same as WISH
  • A computer program designed to assist in planning
    a career goal oriented 4th year
  • Requires an Approved Academic Advisor to meet
    plan senior year. Advisor signature is required
    on course approval form.

  • Looks at - course specific
  • List courses under category
  • Select categories for ranked sub-block
  • Does not affect other Phase I entries
  • Difference in Lottery Phases I, II?
  • Phase I II are date specific - looks at ranked
    dates, then attempts scheduling from prioritized
    category lists

  • Schedules Acting Internships AI
  • Each Category has multiple courses
  • Dates reserved by using category O to be used for
    electives, interviews, Step II other
  • Rank sub-blocks (dates) in order of priority

  • Changes may be made until deadline
  • First 7 requests for OFF are guaranteed
  • Each sub-block - prioritize list all 5
    categories in order of preference
  • Medicine, Inpatient, Ambulatory, Surgery, OFF
  • (example MISAO, OSIAM)

  • Signed Career Advisor Approval Form before Phase
    I entry deadline turn in to your scheduler for
    entry to be recognized
  • Retain copy of Career Advisor Approval
  • Home Campus Bham Scheduler will
  • retain copies and refer to it

  • Replace OFF dates with electives, interviews,
    Open for Step II
  • Reminder
  • - do not schedule a course during interviews
  • BIG Mistake!
  • Reminder maximum 2 days off during a 4 week
    rotation with departmental PRE- approval
  • - no days off from a 2 week rotation even with
    department approval

Scholars Week 5 - SWISH completed at the same
time BUT not a part of FYSH
  • Go to SWISH entry screen to schedule
  • List several options of interest for WK 5
  • Dont forget! Mandatory SW assignments are
    assigned for these course in IA or VB
  • Bham 28-404 through 28-411
  • Huntsville Medicine Surgery

Visiting Electives
  • FYSH reserves time for visiting electives
  • Applications are processed by your scheduler
  • (signatures, seal, etc. retains a copy)
  • Acceptance must be given to your scheduler
  • The course doesnt exist until manually
    entered into the system prior to first day
  • Do not assume it is scheduled
  • International (with no Affiliation Agreement)
    Non-LCME
  • Request application in Dr. Boulwares office as
    this requires special review for approval. Allow
    4 - 6 weeks after submission.

  • Research is entered manually by scheduler -
    Department CHAIR approval must be e-mailed to
    braswell_at_uab.edu April Boyd, aboyd_at_uab.edu
    including preceptors name, short title of work,
    and dates
  • The course does not exist until entered by your
    scheduler prior to the beginning date

  • Career Advisor can be changed
  • Schedule changes can be made Changes requested
    less than 30 days before the rotation begins
