WHATS UP WITH LAKE MUNSON???
  • The purpose of our investigation is to detect how
    the rate of flowing water in the Lake effects the
    Lakes stability.

EDUCATED GUESS!!!!
  • We propose that if there is an increase in flow
    rate then Lake Munson will be more stable. This
    thought comes from the idea of the pollutants in
    the Lake being removed through the use of flow
    rate and if the flow rate is fast then the
    pollutants are being removed quickly, making Lake
    Munson a stable body of water.

THE PLAN OF ACTION 2 BE TAKEN..
  • Find a clear area in the lake free of pollution
    (paper, cans, etc.)
  • Count out the desired amount of feet in which the
    rate will be taken.
  • Tie the string around the tennis ball.
  • Have the one of the two people at the head of the
    stream drop the tennis ball into the water. Both
    stopwatches should begin at this moment.
    Carefully watch and document what happens to the
    ball. Does it begin fast? Is it blocked at any
    moment by a foreign body?
  • Once the ball reaches the end of the marked off
    area, stop the watches. Pull the ball out of the
    water.
  • Repeat these steps several times. All
    documentations and timings should be averaged
    together to come up with the most valid data.

  • There were two sets of three tests taken at the
    outlet each set at a distance of 38 ft.
  • The water in this area was fairly clear and fish
    and other organisms could be seen floating around
    in the water

IN THE END.
  • Based on the hypothesis the slow flowing rate of
    Lake Munson coupled with the large amount of
    pollutants lead to the large amount of build up
    within the lake. The rise in development of the
    area, i.e. paving of roads along with the
    installment of storm water drainage pipes, forced
    the storm water runoff of Tallahassee to flow
    straight into the lake instead of allowing the
    storm water to flow naturally over the ground.
    This increase in pollutants entering the lake
    coupled with the already slow moving current
    called for the need of human intervention an
    equilibrium in the lake could be achieved.

LIMITATIONS
  • One of the major limitations of this project was
    the unpredictability of the rate of flowing water
    that the float was thrown into for it varied from
    day to day along with the spot that it entered
    the water along the bank. Also, as with many
    other investigations one major improvement cold
    always have been to include more tests.
