    to meet employers demand for a highly qualified

  • Federal Carl D. Perkins Act (1990 and 1998)--
    federal requirements for Tech Prep and CATE
  • Texas HB2401 (1999)--state endorsement for Tech
    Prep codifies relationship between Tech Prep and
    the Recommended High School Program
  • 26 regional Tech Prep consortia in Texas (led
    by partnership of THECB and TEA)

  • New state law--also attempting to meet employers
    demand for a highly qualified workforce
  • Specifies Recommended High School Program as
    required for high schools beginning with ninth
    graders in 2004-2005
  • Tech Prep, already promoting the Recommended

    in implementation of HB1144

Tech Prep programs save MONEY!!!

Articulation of Courses
Students receive credit for high school courses
that are enhanced to be equivalent to
introductory college courses. These save time
as much as a full semester of college These save
money in some types of courses student/parents
save fees and tuition and the state saves funding.

In one year, students enrolled in 37 colleges,
and their parents, saved about 288,000 and the
state saved about 472,000, for a statewide total
of 760,000.
