Overdose Working Groups
  • Activities of the working groups will be the
    catalyst for change in creating new programs,
    policies and practices that will decrease the
    rate of overdose in Allegheny County.

Fitting The Pieces Together
  • Assess prevention needs based on epidemiological
    data
  • Build prevention capacity
  • Develop a strategic plan
  • Implement effective community prevention
    programs, policies and practices, and
  • Evaluate efforts for outcomes.

  • Review of AC overdose data.
  • Strategic working group basis of planning and
    other steps.
  • 3. Planning
  • Working groups will discuss and plan what
    programs, policies and practices should be
    created to decrease overdose deaths in AC.
  • A formal strategic plan will be created/authored.
  • 2. Capacity
  • Creation of working groups.
  • Determine needs of community based upon data and
    what capacities do/do not already exist in
    community.
  • 4. Implementation
  • Prevention programs, changes to or new policies
    created, and other activities will be conducted
    as a result of working groups and the strategic
    plan that is created.
  • 5. Evaluation
  • Evaluate activities (working groups, strategic
    plan, outcomes, goals.

Capacity Working Group
  • Focus on developing a plan that will increase
    community resources necessary to implement
    designated practices/policies/programs. May
    include
  • Trainings
  • Leadership support development
  • Publications of programs/practices/policies
    implemented as a result of the conference and
    activities of the working groups.

Evaluation Working Group
  • Focus on evaluation of any initiatives, programs,
    or policies created and implemented as a result
    of the conference and other working groups.
  • Develop a formal evaluative process to assess
    outcomes.

Implementation Working Group
  • Designate and define preferred practices,
    policies, and programs (prevention, intervention,
    and treatment as well as others).
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan
  • Develop and implement a communication plan from
    which public/provider awareness, knowledge and
    action regarding overdose deaths in Allegheny
    County will be continually enhanced.

    surrounding drug overdoses that our community
    feels should be addressed?
  • What programs/practices/policies should the
    community develop or change that will impact the
    issues we have identified?
  • What additional resources will be needed to
    develop and sustain these programs/practices/polic
    ies?
  • How can we best implement these
    programs/practices/policies?
  • How will we evaluate whether the
    programs/practices/policies we implement make a
    difference?
  • How can we sustain and improve upon the progress
    we make?
