Managing Illegal Questions
  • Legal questions are related to the job you are
    seeking (experience, education)
  • Illegal topics include age, race, children,
    marital status, sexual orientation, religious
    preferences, personal characteristics,
    disabilities and health
  • Three options for illegal questions
  • Answer the question
  • Refuse to answer the question
  • Examine the intent and respond to that

  • Expand on any missed items and restate your
    skills if necessary.
  • Ask if there is anything else you can provide,
    such as references, background information or
    work samples.
  • Express your interest!
  • Clarify the next step inquire about the
    decision timeline.
  • Find out how to contact them and whether they
    will accept calls to check the status.
  • Thank them for their time.
  • Exit gracefully- Last impressions count too!

Mock Interview Assignment
  • Prepare for possible interview questions using
    the list of questions and/or the virtual Perfect
    Interview site to practice see sample answers
    from professionals.
  • CRC Interview Bring a blank VHS tape. You will
    complete a taped, 20 minute mock interview be
    critiqued by a CA.
  • Face-to-Face Use a professional in the field.
    Provide a sample critique form and list of career
    or school-specific questions to guide them.
  • Have your interviewer fill out the critique form
    and offer suggestions for improvement. After the
    mock interview, add your comments or reaction to
    the process/ interviewers comments on the
    critique form in a different color.
  • Critique form questions are available on the
    class website
  • Have some fun and play the Nail the Interview
    Game.

Missed Interviews at CRC
  • Student Responsibilities
  • Only pursue positions in which you have a genuine
    interest.
  • Respond to all invitations to interview, even if
    your response is to decline.
  • Participate in all interviews you accept.
  • Present an accurate account of work experience
    and education.
  • Discontinue your job search after accepting a job
    offer and notify employers who may be affected by
    your decision.
  • Contact the recruiter immediately upon realizing
    you need to cancel an interview.

Missed Interviews at CRC
  • Cancellation Policy
  • In order not to be penalized, you must cancel
    within 48 hours.
  • Logon to Gator CareerLink account and visit your
    Scheduled Interviews tab to cancel or reschedule.
  • If those buttons do not appear (it is within 48
    hours), you must contact the employer directly.
  • It is up to the recruiters discretion if they
    wish to mark you as a No Show.

Missed Interviews at CRC
  • No Shows and Late Cancellations
  • Your Gator CareerLink account will be disabled
    (you will not be able to apply for jobs, sign up
    for interviews, or participate in other On-Campus
    recruiting activities).
  • You will receive an e-mail with directions for
    doing the following two things
  • Write the recruiter an apology letter for missing
    the interview. Turn the letter in to the front
    desk in an envelope, stamped, and addressed to
    the company contact (as found in GCL)
  • Complete and pass the Missed Interview Quiz and
    turn it in to the front desk of the CRC.
  • Multiple Offenses
  • If you receive a second offense, you will be
    permanently deleted from the Gator CareerLink
    system, making you ineligible to submit for job
    postings and any On-Campus Interviewing in the
    future.
