  • For approximately 20 years, the indigenous
nationalities of Ecuador have been searching for
new alternatives in order to adapt to the new
social and cultural changes in the society and
also to face economic problems. For this reason
new alternatives of community based tourism have
been built according to their own cultural
    rationalities. The tourism activity has
facilitated the possibility to improve the living
    conditions and create intercultural encounters.

3
  • In this way the development of community Tourism
  • allows the communities to find their  own
    identity
  • increases cultural development.
  • keeps and preserves the collective memory, which
contributes to social and economic strengthening
and to sustainable  handling and preservation  of
    the environment.
  • participates in daily and productive activities

4
WHO ARE WE?
  •  Nowadays FEPTCE has 57 members from all over
the country, composed of different communities
from the Amazon region, Andes region, and the
    Coast region.
  • This is a way to show the diversity and the
variety of culture  that exists in our country.

5
Our Goals
  •   To incorporate community tourism  into the
    political and public management  sector.
  •   To create a legal  framework which allows the
    development of this activity.
  • To generate and promote community experiences
in the form of tourism packages at local,
    national and international level.
  • To develop in way that considers and respects
our own cosmo-vision as well as our social and
    economic particularities.
  • To improve the way of life in the local
communities which is based on sustainable
    management of natural and socio-cultural
resources that  generate  direct benefits to the
    communities.

6
Goals Continued
  • To support the development of different
    productive initiatives  that complement community
    tourism.
  •   To strengthen the communities socio and
    organizational structure.
  • To promote the development of  cultural tourism
that  allows the exchange of knowledge and
experiences  between  the visitors and the
    communities.
  • To contribute to the recognition and
    strengthening of the pluri-national and
intercultural status of the Ecuadorian society.

7

experience the wonderful flora and fauna which is
located in the highlands and in the humid
    tropical forest.

different cultures that live in Ecuador. The
visitors will have the opportunity to get involve

activities, which allow the visitors to know
different techniques of the handmade work, to
learn about their traditional  myths and
stories, to share their music, dances and parties
as well as to have direct contact with the old
    and young people.

The Strategic Vision of the Federation
  • Our vision of tourism development is based on
values such as solidarity, cooperation, respect
for life, preservation and sustainable use of
ecosystems and of their biological diversity.
Therefore, we are against any type of tourism
development in our lands which could become a
burden for our people, our culture and the
    environment.

11
Why did Community based Tourism Appear in
Ecuador!
  • Because of
  • Unequal benefits and the lack of direct benefits
  • Lack of local participation
  • External tour operators making money
  • Looking for new kind of development alternatives.
