  • Promote sound management and sustainable use of
    land and water resources in agriculture
  • Programme Overview
  • The programme consists of two directorates, Land
    Use and Soil Management (LUSM) and Water Use and
    Irrigation Development (WUID).
  • LUSM focused on the conservation of land
    resources through CARA (Act 43 of 1983). Pest
    control, reclamation of land resources and
    Landcare are the major activities in this
    directorate.
  • WUID focuses on agricultural infrastructure
    development and irrigation through CARA (Act 43
    of 1983). Rehabilitation of irrigation schemes
    and provision of water to rural communities
    (through drilling of boreholes) are critical
    activities within the directorate.
