Current Provision
  • South West London and St Georges Mental Health
    NHS Trust currently provides specialist mental
    health services for people with learning
    disabilities for the boroughs of Sutton, Merton
    and Wandsworth. The service includes
  • 10 inpatient beds (Jasmines Ward, Tolworth
    Hospital)
  • Specialist Therapies (Jasmines Lodge, Tolworth
    Hospital )
  • Assessment and Intervention Team (in Wandsworth
    only)
  • Sutton and Merton Community Mental Health
    Learning Disability Team
  • Specialist Psychotherapy service (operated from
    Springfield Hospital site)

Aims of the Service
  • The aims of the service are threefold
  • To facilitate access to generic mental health
    services whenever possible.
  • To provide community mental health teams for
    adults with learning disabilities across Merton,
    Sutton Wandsworth for those who cannot access
    mainstream services.
  • To provide admission for assessment and/or
    treatment to specialist learning disability
    mental health beds for adults with learning
    disabilities who cannot appropriately or safely
    access generic adult mental health beds.

The service
  • Helps people with learning disabilities access
    generic mental health services through agreed
    protocols, multi-disciplinary consultation and
    liaison.
  • Provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment of
    adults who have learning disabilities and complex
    mental health problems and/or severely
    challenging behaviour, who require a specialist
    mental health service.
  • Uses the least restrictive option for treatment,
    delivered in a therapeutic framework that is
    safe, sound and supportive
