  • Assessment can be accomplished through informal
    observations of the children
  • Assessment can take into account the results of
    formal evaluations performed by other
    professionals
  • Ask yourself Which skill(s) do the children
    need to work on?

Brainstorming
  • Consists of an accumulation of ideas for possible
    activities that will meet the developmental needs
    of the children or of a child
  • can include several individuals, including the
    children themselves

Matching/choosing
  • Which of the activities will best match the
    childrens learning styles?
  • Which of the activities are you best prepared to
    implement?
  • Which of the activities will be a new experience
    for most of the children?
  • Which of the activities would these children most
    enjoy?

Planning
  • Describe the group number of children, ages,
    special needs
  • Write out your objectives social, emotional,
    cognitive, physical
  • List materials and space required
  • Carefully and thoughtfully write out the
    procedure What will you do and say? What will
    the children be expected to do and say?

  • Write out the questions you might ask during
    implementation
  • Include open-ended questions
  • Decide on a song, discussion question, fingerplay
    or other short activity you would like to do as
    the closure

Refining
  • Read the lesson plan through to ensure that its
    clear and thorough
  • Make sure that the activities youve described
    will indeed accomplish the objectives youve set
    out to reach
  • Imagine yourself implementing the lesson Is
    there anything you want to change after
    visualizing the lesson?

Implementing
  • Make sure you have all the materials prepared
    ahead of time
  • Dont assume that the space and materials will be
    available/ check with your co-workers and/or
    director
  • Do your very best!

Evaluating
  • Think about how well the lesson went
  • Go over each objective Did you accomplish each
    one as stated?
  • What might you do differently next time?
  • What kind of a follow-up activity would be
    appropriate?
