TRH TMH library
  • Compelling reasons for development and innovation
    advances made
  • Progress has escaped capture
  • Escaped emerging practice

5
Current state of official guidelines
  • TMH 1 Standard test methods of road construction
    materials not up-to-date

Questions
  • How do we encourage and guide new entrants?
  • How often is good practice and cost efficiency
    compromised?
  • How is innovation encouraged?

9
ResolutionRPF 7 May 2002
  • That a task group is convened to establish a
system or procedure whereby the content of
    national specifications, manuals and guidelines
in use feature best current practice and reflect
a balanced view acceptable to both road owners
    and product and service providers.

10
Resolution/cont
  • That a means of synthesising/disseminating this
content as widely and cost-effectively as is
    reasonable also be examined.

11
SA DoT
  • COTO largely dysfunctional for some time now in
    this respect
  • The industry and practice are increasingly
turning to SA DoT to salvage the situation.
  • The SA DoT involvement and support of RPF -
    explored.

12
RISFSA
  • Discussion document issued in November 2002
  • Comprehensive landmark document
  • Positive suggestions
  • Sabita submission on the topic of HCD

    infrastructure delivery, maintenance and
    operation

infrastructure provision and management was at
    risk

14
Quo vadis
  • Commitment to serve the countrys needs in social
    and economic development

    pertinent continuing professional development

  • Shelved its technical committees
  • Industry input to deliberations ad hoc

15
Request
  • Turning to SADoT
  • Custodian of the pool of national intellectual
    property
  • Ensure that best practice is reflected in
    official guideline documents
