(June 1nd deadline for summer) - 1 manila folder to be returned to counseling
center (June 1st) - One resource folder for your convenience at home

Sketch should be tailored to the teacher from
whom you are requesting a recommendation. Cite
examples specific to that particular class.
Return to Counselor/Teacher. - High School Credential Guide Sheet This form
should be typed or use current resume. Return
copy to Counselor/Teacher. - (give updated credentials after summer if
necessary) - Parent Questionnaire Return copies to Counselor

17 MRHS TRANSCRIPT TIMELINE
- Return completed folders
- Make appt w/ counselor
- Student athletes visit NCAA website
- Review essays with English teachers
- Be aware of deadlines
- (4 weeks prior)
- Request official transcript
- Give teachers blue folders with schools and
envelopes and any new information
- Try to have process complete!

- Visit campus, gather info and request and start

18 Follow the StepsAfter research and decisions
have been made
- Student completes college application.
- (online (preferred, or hard copy)
- Read directions CAREFULLY!!!!!
- Make sure all required information is sent in,
SAT/ACT (directly from the college board) - Bring transcript request form with colleges
listed, to Ms. Deison with addressed stamped
envelope(s) and any secondary counselor school
forms. Students are to indicate all schools that
require a secondary counselor report on the
transcript release form. - Counselors/teachers will mail letters of
recommendation directly. (Teacher will keep
record of request in the blue folder you give
them.) - Ms. Deison will call you down to Student Services
to review and receive your transcript. You will
mail your transcript.

20Admissions Essay
- Dos
- Give it direction with a theme or thesis
- Before you begin writing, choose what you want to
discuss - Use concrete examples from your life experience
to support your thesis and distinguish yourself
from other applicants. - Write about what interests you, excites you.
- Start your essay with an attention-grabbing
lead--an anecdote, quote, question, or engaging
description of a scene. - End your essay with a conclusion that refers back
to the lead and restates your thesis. - Ask someone else to critique your essay for you.
- Proofread your essay by reading it out loud
- REVISE, REVISE, REVISE
- Don'ts
- Don't include information that doesn't support
your thesis. - Don't write an autobiography, itinerary, or
resume in prose. - Don't try to be a clown (but gentle humor is OK).
- Don't be afraid to start over
- Don't try to impress your reader with your
vocabulary. - Don't rely exclusively on your computer to check
your spelling. - Don't provide a collection of generic statements
and platitudes. - Don't make things up.
