Todays Lecture
  • Teaching Staff
  • Glyn Hughes
  • Room 604B, Phone 0151 231 2196, eMail
    g.d.hughes_at_ljmu.ac.uk
  • Module Aims Content
  • Lecture Labs
  • Module Assessment
  • Questions?

3
Module Aims
  • To increase the student's insight into the
    selection and use of
  • appropriate analysis and design methods
    applicable to web based
  • information systems development and to develop
    their expertise
  • in the use of these methods and associated
    developmental tools.

4
Lecture Labs
  • This module is a work shop !
  • A work shop is a module that allows students to
design and develop (in a small team) an
application, in such a way that their
efforts mimic real world design and development.
  • This means that 90 of time is spent by students
    in groups.
  • Research, Planning, Analysis, Coding, Testing
    etc.
  • The tutor will host work shop style
    demonstrations and will provide both
    tutorial materials and indicative references.

5
System Analysis
  • You should draw from your own development
    experience.
  • You can also carry out research on other
    methodologies.
  • Any suitable methodology can be used, but ensure
    you justify why.
  • Object Oriented Class Diagrams ) other UML too.
  • DFDs ERDs
  • User Interface Design?
  • 2,3,n Tier Model?
  • you will probably need to use several different
    methods in unison

6
System Implementation
  • Your system implementation should make use of
    the robust development
    capabilities of .NET 2.0
  • You have a choice of programming language, C or
    VB.
  • Visual Studio 2005 includes its own development
    web server.
  • This allows you to execute ASP.NET (aspx files)
    without IIS.
  • Access 2003 can be used during the development
process but the complete system should have SQL
Server 2005 at its back end.

7
Reports
  • You must submit short progress reports every
    three days.
  • These reports will track your progress as well as
    identify design decisions and the
    problems/solutions that are encountered.
  • On the coursework submission date (set as 3 Sept
    2008).
  • You must submit a final project report that
describes, in detail the entire design and
development process from start to finish.
  • You can reuse some of the material from your
    progress reports.

8
Presentation
  • Towards the end of your project
  • Date TBC
  • Maximum duration of Ten Mins
  • Ten to Twelve slides at most
  • The goal of the presentation is to market your
complete web based information system for the
    hypothetical software firm
  • Focus on what it does not how it works

9
Todays Lab
  • Get acquainted with the development tools.
  • Visual Studio 2005 SQL Server 2005.
  • There are three zips on black board that contain
    much material.
  • Specifically, material on C, ASP.NET, ADO.NET
    SQL Server.
  • Get yourselves in to groups, decide on a suitable
system to develop and then discuss your system
    idea with the tutor.
  • organise your team to make maximum use of your
    time and expertise
