Weekly Communication
  • On Monday of each week a Weekly Sheet will be
sent home. Please post this in a handy place
(maybe on the refrigerator) and refer to it
during the week. This will keep you informed of
what is being taught during the week. This will
also give you any information on special events,
field trips, or anything you may need to send to
school. Be sure to check our class website
often. You may also email me at home

Assessment and Evaluation
  • Each week, we will give the children check-ups
to evaluate their progress. These are usually
given on Thursday of each week. These check-ups
will be sent home on the following Tuesday. Look
over these, go over them with your child, sign
them, and return them in your childs folder on
Wednesday. These will give you a good indication
if your child is having difficulty. We will begin
practice check-ups the third week of school. A
report card will be given at the end of each
    first nine weeks.

14
Other Stuff
  • Birthdays -You may send treats (cookies,
cupcakes, etc.) to celebrate your childs
birthday. Send a note a couple of days in
    advance.
  • Each month I will send a Scholastic Book Club
order form. The books offered are usually
    award-winning and age appropriate for
Kindergarten children. The prices are very
reasonable. Make checks payable to Scholastic
    Book Club (NO CASH).

15
Book Buddy Bags
  • We have an exciting project in our classroom
called Book Buddy Bags. This project will be a
way to enrich your childs education while having
    fun.
  • The bags will be sent home with the students on a
rotating basis. Our bags will correlate with
units of study that have been introduced at
school. They will include a book, an activity or
game, and/or a puppet or stuffed animal that
relates to the book. The contents of the bag
will provide skill reinforcement and hands-on
activities to reemphasize what the children have
    been learning at school.
  • For this project to be a success we must make
sure the bags are taken care of and returned to
school on the due date. The students will be
looking forward to taking their turn with the
    Buddy Bags.
  • Most of the bags have a journal. Have your child
write in the journal. Please help your child be
    an independent worker.
  • A permission form will be sent home for you to
sign if you wish for your child to take part in
    this special literacy program.

16
Absenteeism
  • If your child is absent from school, make-up work
will be sent home. Please help your child
complete it and return it to school. Much of
Kindergarten learning occurs in group activity,
which can not be made up at home. Please value
school attendance as a priority. Refer to the
student handbook for school policy on
    attendance.
