• Oversee 52 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) covering
  all of PAs 67 counties
• AAAs are the local representative of the PA

Older Adult Protective Services

• Receive Reports
• Classification as emergency, priority,
  non-priority
• Emergency cases must be investigated immediately
• priority 24 hours, non-priority 72 hours

Mandatory Reporting under Act 13

• An employee who has a reasonable cause to
  suspect that a recipient is a victim of abuse
  should immediately make an oral report to the
  agency.

• Employees and administrators of all elder care
  facilities must file an oral and written report
  of abuse or neglect to the AAA within 24 hours of
  witnessing a suspicious incident.
• In the case of sexual abuse/assault, serious
  injury, and/or suspicious death, reporters are
  also required to make an immediate oral report to
  local law enforcement and to Pennsylvania
  Department of Aging within 48 hours.
