Early History of Chinese Immigration to the U.S.
  • Most of the early immigrants came from the
    province of Guangzhou.This province later came to
    be known as Canton.
  • Canton was the major trade center for China
  • Many Chinese heard of the United States from
    sailors who came on ships that would come into
    port at Canton.
  • Word of America spread fast, the Chinese begin
    to be curious about this new land and its
    opportunities.
