  • GWN will provide Class 3 PDFs for all paddlers

Boat PositionsCaptains assign team seats prior
to practice session.
  • Strokers (Rows 1,2,3) Sets the timing for the
    boat. Dancers, Musicians, keeps pace.
  • Engine Room (Rows 4,5,6,7) Usually your tallest
    and largest team members. Need endurance.
  • Rocket (Rows 8,9,10) Helps pull the boat out of
    the water and provides the energy for a strong
    finish.

Voice Commands
  • Attention used to get paddlers attention
  • Sit up Sit up and prepare for the next command
  • Paddles up Assume paddles ready position and
    wait for next command
  • Take it away command to begin paddling usually
    followed by a descriptive command like easy, or 5
    hard strokes
  • Let it run stop paddling
  • Draw directed for the left or right side to pull
    the paddle toward the boat to move it sideways
  • Back paddle stroke in reverse
  • Stop the boat paddles are thrust into the water
    and held still to stop the motion of the boat
  • Steady the boat paddles are placed flat on the
    water to stabilize the boat
  • Hold the boat Used during races to maintain
    position of the boat.
