The Truth About Satan
The Context of Isaiah 1412
131, The burden of Babylon 136, Howl ye
for the day of the LORD is at hand 1319, And
Babylonshall be as when God overthrew Sodom and
Gomorrah...
144, ...take up this proverb against the king
of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor
ceased! the golden city ceased! 1411-12, Thy
pomp is brought down to the grave...12 How art
thou fallen from heaven, O LUCIFER, son of the
morning!... 1416, Is this the man that made
the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms.

10) Within the context of Isaiah 14 (vv. 4, 16,
19, 22), who does the name Lucifer refer to (v.
12)? Is similar language used to refer to others
who held key positions i.e. the prince of
Tyrus (Ezk. 281-17) Nebuchadnezzar (Dan.
44-5, 24, 32, 36-37) Christ (Mal. 42 II Pet.

261 Lucifer, according to Lxx., Vulg., Targ.,
Rabbin., Luth., brilliant star, i.e. Lucifer, the
morning star. This suits best with the context
and parallelism. Isa. xiv.12.

The Truth About Satan
Lu ci-fer the light bearer or bringer. The
planet Venus, as the morning star. With the
exception of the sun and moon, Venus is the
brightest object in the sky. It appears as a
morning or an evening star according as it is
west or east of the sun, returning to the same
position about every nineteen months. As the
former, Venus is the harbinger of daylight. The
prophet likened the splendor of the king of
Babylon to Lucifer, son of the morning (Is. xiv.
12 in R. V. day-star), and Jesus calls himself
the bright, the morning star (Rev. xxii. 16 cp.
2 Pet. i. 19). The application of the name
Lucifer to Satan, the rebel angel hurled from
heaven, has existed since the third century,
especially among poets. It is based on the
erroneous supposition that Luke x. 18 is an
explan-ation of Is. xiv. 12. DAVIS

I Jn. 215-17, LOVE NOT THE WORLD, neither the
things that are in THE WORLD. If any man love THE
WORLD, the love of the Father is not in him. 16
For all that is in THE WORLD, the LUST of the
flesh, and the LUST of the eyes, and the PRIDE of
life, is not of the Father, but is of THE WORLD.
17 And THE WORLD passeth away, and the lust
thereof but he that doeth the will of God
abideth forever. Cf. I Jn. 41, 5-6 (I Cor. 212)
