Types of Media
  • Still photos
  • Using a traditional camera, images are burned in
    digital format on a CD-ROM
  • Using a digital camera, photos are saved as
    .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp formats
  • Scanning in an image and saving to a disk or file

3
Types of Media cont.
  • Motion and Movie Clips
  • Motion File Type of animated graphic.
  • Movie File A few frames from a filmed
    production. More on that later.

The EASY Part Inserting Still, Motion Movie
Clips in PowerPoint
  • Open your presentation as usual
  • Select slide for the motion clip
  • Choose "Insert" "Movies and Sounds"
  • Indicate if you are inserting a saved clip or
selecting something from your Clip Art Gallery.
  • Choose either "Movie From File or "Movie From
    Gallery".
  • Select the file and complete the process by
    clicking "Insert Clip
  • See Insert an animated GIF picture on a slide
    handout

5
The Hard Part Finding THE Motion Clips You May
Need
  • Once in PowerPoint slide format, select "Insert
Movies and Sounds". Select "Movie from Gallery".
  • With Internet service, download a clip from a Web
site. See Additional locations for templates and
picture, music, sound, video, and animation clips
handout if you need a verbal clue.
  • Click "Clips Online". First time users must click
the "accept" button when the license agreement
    comes up.
  • Four search control buttons will come up.
  • Search 1 Control Describe the clip you want.
  • Search 2 Control Limit the search by category.
  • Search 3 Control Limit the search to a type of
    file, such as Motion.
  • Search 4 Control Sort your results by file
    size, etc.

6
Continuing w/Motion Clips from Microsofts Clip
Gallery
  • Then click "Go" that is next to the first control
    button.
  • Allow all the clips to load based on your search
criteria. Download speed of your modem and the
files size (identified in Search 4 Control),
determines time required. Process may take a few
    minutes.
  • Go through he various files and select those
    items you wish to download.
  • Select the check box beneath the clip (Download
    Clip link).
  • The clip will automatically be placed in your
    appropriate category based on Microsoft's
opinion. Selecting clips by category gives you a
    hint where to look later.

jpeg files that are compatible with your system
    or platform

11
Just a Sample
Just as you can control animation with a motion
clip, you can do likewise with a movie clip under
Slide Show/Custom Animation/Order and Timing
12
Create Your Own
Sound or Movie Files
  • See About adding music, sounds, videos, and
animated GIF pictures in your handouts.
  • See About recording a voice narration or sound in
    a slide show.
  • See Insert a video on a slide.

13
Lets create . . . Voice recording
  • 1st. Check for sound card and microphone.
  • Then refer to your handout on Record a voice
    narration.
  • Find the record option under Insert/Movies and
    Sound/Record Sound
  • Then custom animated the sound to play when and
how you want it to play.
  • You may also record a sound via video or a
digital tape recorders and save the files in
    wav format.

14
Lets find some sound files and insert them first
  • Using the Start/Find on your desktop, look for
    some MIDI files using .rmi
  • Look under Computer/C/Windows/Media/
  • There are generally some sounds files for you to
copy and insert into your PowerPoint

15
Lets create
  • Possible ways
  • Having a normal video re-formated as a digital
file. See sample of Region V video at URL
    http//www.adulteducation.fau.edu/electronic/Movie
    s/region5.mpg or techteam.mov
  • Inserting that file as a hyperlink into
    PowerPoint

16
Lets create . . . A video
  • Use a digital video camera with compatible
    storage formats to store images.
  • Sony Digital Mavica Quick Access FD Drive2X
    MPEGMovie using 3.5 disk
  • Apple QuickTake camera

17
And a STAR is born . . .
The short clips allow for brief instruction on a
top, for narrations, and do not make it
impossible to keep the file size of the
PowerPoint where it is still manageable.
