22
Scope Currency
  • The Literary Market Place (LMP) is the directory
of the book publishing industry. Published
annually, it is the resource consulted by users
looking for current industry data on publishers,
    literary agents, associations, distributors, and
    events.
  • The Editorial Revision Form is included in each
volume. LMP solicits up-to-date information from
each listing at least once a year.
  • Company entries usually list name, contact
    information, significant personnel, and
additional info such as number of titles
published in a year, and types of books
    published.
  • Company entries also include ISBN prefixes and
    SANs.
  • SANs are unique numbers assigned to the
    addresses of publishers, wholesalers and
booksellers. ISBNs and SANs are administered by
R.R. Bowker LLC. There is no provision for
locating a publisher by its SAN in these volumes.
The SANs has become THE identification code for
electronic communication within the industry. The
use of the SAN significantly reduces the problems
faced by other non-standard numbering systems
such as billing errors, books shipped to the
wrong points, errors in payments and returns.
